GCD versions

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 1:57 pm

I'm about to reinstall Morrowind in a more Windows 7 friendly folder, but the only version I can find is 1.07c. Everyone talks about 1.08 all the time, and the 1.08 link on Gluby's guide links to a dead page. He also mentions some bugs there, as does a thread I've been looking at a bit not far below this one. It is suggested that Gluby has done a bug fix to this mod, but I can't find anywhere to download such a fix.

I also want to use Improved Skilled Magicka, but am concerned about finding a non-patched version that might not work with GCD. The various mod guides out there are so out of date that I can't make heads or tails of what versions are current or available.

Help! ... and thanks.

I appreciate your assistance. I'm sketchy on downloading from a site I can't read. I think the guys hashing it out on the bigger GCD development thread will have these answers though, including the slightly fixed up versions and all of that. I just didn't want to clutter up that thread with a request like this.

I'll just repeat what I said under the topic GCD...

If anyone feels brave, I'm looking for testers. I've been working on slimming GCD down to try to resolve some stability issues and perhaps make it a bit zippier, so if you have a lot of patience, any game testing you could do would be appreciated. There are two versions of mine available right now: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dzzml2tykg1zz1y and http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?gp3flhh7ylb8eld. The first is not as far along as the second, but I've playtested it the longest. Both seem to work quite satisfactorily for me with only very rare hitches, but I don't know if they're any better or worse than the original. That's the question I'm trying to have answered. I should note that GCD's custom settings are still available, but at this stage they're more involved.

Other versions include one by http://www24.atwiki.jp/morrowind/pub/GCD%20108kai2.zip and one by http://download210.mediafire.com/ztz0zhxavsgg/ylyn2fwmofz/GCD+v1.08+with+Startscript%2C+fixed+%5BGalsiah%5D.rar which fix the major errors but don't go as far with the slimming down.

I'd love to test but I'm very ill, so it's best to go with stable for me. I wish you the best though. Will I be able to update to your version seamlessly upon completion if I use one of the other two for now?

For anyone who has Tribunal/Bloodmoon (presumably everyone now), there's really no advantage in using 1.08 over 1.07c. For those without any expansion, 1.08 was an important fix; for anyone with an expansion, it just had a few minor cosmetic changes. Both 1.07c and 1.08 have a few minor scripting errors, so there's no advantage in using 1.08 from that point of view - to get those fixed, you'd want to use one of the alternate versions mentioned above. I don't know how much those versions improve stability, but they certainly shouldn't hurt - unless someone has been careless.

That explains why 1.08 is so hard to find. By now you have to think nearly everyone uses all 3 discs. Do you know anything about the compatibility with Improved Skilled Magicka? I read something about having to get the fix on that lengthy GCD thread that has been around page 1 here, but there is a lot of inside information there where people all seem to know the same download sources and stuff I think.

Alternately, I'd be happy to use *another* magic mod that based level-ups on mana spent as long as it was compatible. This is just the one I know about.

Actually, PirateLord's mod says it is designed for use with GCD, so maybe I read something wrong. Beats me. I'm trying it.

I like one called Magicka Based Spell Advancement, by Azrael. It works just fine alongside GCD in my game. It does require Morrowind Enhanced, though.

I saw that one too. I had read something on the GCD thread about finding a compatible version, but then when I went and found a direct link to Piratelord's mod, it said it was made specifically for GCD. So far it seems ok and doesn't require any extra things running, so I'm happy at the moment. :)

I use Magicka Based Spell Advancement too without issue.

If you mean switching in the middle of a savegame, sorry, but I wouldn't. I've completely reworked the variables; you'd lose some stats. ..best to use it on a fresh game.
