How to get a bone-white paint color?

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 9:25 pm

Hello. I am finishing up my Hallowe'en mask, and I need to paint it. I am trying to go for a bone-white color, which is sort of a very light brown. I tried mixing a bit of brown paint with white, but I didn't get the right results. Does anyone know what colors I should use, and the ratio of the colors? Thanks in advance!

Bone is more mustardy yellow than brown. Try a tiny bit of brown and a bit more yellow and maybe a really small amount of grey and then mix that with the white?

Hmm, you can use white (any) and add yellow ochre as well as a tiny bit of maybe purple/lilac mixed in with gray afterward to dim the combination as it would be too bright without it. Of course, bone color varies, you can go a little harder on the ochre around certain edges, perhaps apply a tiny bit of raw umber with a small dry brush for a dirty look, etc. Look at photos, there are a number of ways to go about it, play around.

I think I'll go with this method. Thanks everyone for the help!
