Fallout: Dilabor Insula

Hey guys and gals. Thought I'd have a crack at writing a fan fiction story. Enjoy! :)

Prologue - The Crash

October 24th, 2077 - 7:45am - Day after the Great War.

Maverick awoke with a tremendous headache. He touched the back of his skull, and saw blood on his hand. Looking around, he realized he was inside of a small aircraft, but it wasn't moving, and it was quite dark inside. He began thinking about the previous events, but the pain in his head stopped him from thinking. The inside of the plane was filled with smoke, along with broken glass and garbage scattered across the floor. Maverick began to panic, and stumbled to his feet.

The sides of the plane had been crumpled, and Maverick could barely breathe from the smoke in the air. All was silent, except for the faint sound of fire from outside of the aircraft. Maverick took a step towards the cockpit of the plane, but stepped on something that felt unusually soft for the floor of a plane. He had stepped on a body. He jumped back in shock, taking two steps behind him, and tripped in the process. He had tripped over another body.

Stumbling back to his feet again, Maverick examined the two bodies; they were both alive. Feeling slightly relieved, he made his way to the cockpit of the plane. He looked inside to see a pilot, who's skull had been smashed into the dashboard, which was now covered with blood and the insides of the pilot's head. Maverick, who was now filled with disgust, began to vomit onto his shoes.

When Maverick finished vomiting, he went back to the fuselage of the aircraft. Maverick tried to open the door of the plane, but realized it had been damaged and wouldn't open. He gave the door a swift kick, which opened the door of the aircraft, but knocked him onto the floor. He stood back up carefully, and slowly stepped outside of the aircraft.

It was bright. His eyes hurt from the difference of lighting, which in turn filled his head with an agonizing pain. He grunted and fell into what seemed to be sand. Maverick held his head for a few seconds, then took a look around. The sky was bright blue, and the sun beamed light and heat directly above him. He could see the ocean, and could hear the waves coming onto the beach in front of him. On the horizon, he could see large, black clouds far out in the distance.

Maverick turned around and looked at the aircraft he just crawled out of. The plane had been crumpled into the ground, and left a large mark in the ground behind it. Smoke rose from the engine, and there was a small fire at the back of the plane. Maverick began to walk down the beach to get a better look at where the plane had crashed. There were trees on one side of him, there was a beach in front of him, and the ocean on the other side of him. He then realized that the plane had crashed on an island. A fairly large island, at that.

Maverick walked down the beach for a few minutes, then headed back to the crashed airplane. He crawled inside of the fuselage, and began pulling the people out onto the beach. There were a total of four survivors inside, each of them passed out, and Maverick had safely taken them out of the plane. He then went back inside the aircraft, and looked for some supplies. There was a fire extinguisher, which he used to put out the small flame in the back. He then grabbed the Emergency Medical Kit and the Food Supply Kit.

Maverick opened the Med Kit, which contained a dozen Stimpaks, some Buffout, tweezers, a scalpel, and other small medical supplies. He injected himself with one of the Stimpaks, which began to numb the pain in his head. Maverick then lay down on the beach beside the other survivors, who were still out cold, and tried thinking about what had happened.

Just as he began to regain his thoughts, one of the other survivors awoke.

Alright, ladies and gentlemen. Here's the first chapter. All comments are encouraged, and I'd like to hear some constructive criticism! Anything to make the reader more interested. Anyways, enjoy! :D

Chapter One

The sound of a woman startled Maverick. It took him a second to clue in that one of the survivors had actually awoken. The woman grunted as the bright sun filled her eyes, and her face turned to horror when she looked at the plane. Maverick studied the woman, and she seemed familiar. He couldn't remember anything from before the crash, or who any of the survivors were. The woman quickly got to her feet, and began shrieking.

"Oh my god!" she cried, and began examining the other survivors. Maverick stood up carefully, and approached her. "Maverick?" the woman said. "What happened?!" The woman had a rather large blood stain on her left pant leg, and there was dirt and dried blood in her messy, blond hair.
"You're injured," Maverick said to the woman.
"What?" she replied. She looked down and noticed the large stain of blood, then began to panic. "How did we get here?!" she shrieked. "Maverick! Maverick, tell me what happened!"

Maverick hesitated, but then began speaking. "Sit down." he ordered. The woman gave him a confused look, then sat down in the sand compliantly. Maverick grabbed the Med Kit, opened it up, and took out a Stimpak. He injected the woman with it, then asked her to roll up her pants. She did this, and revealed three large pieces of broken glass in her leg. "I, I don't remember what happened," Maverick said while reaching for tweezers from the Med Kit. "I honestly don't even remember who you are." The woman tried to give a confused, unbelievable smile, but the pain of Maverick pulling glass from her leg forced her to flinch in pain.

"It's me!" she explained. "Helen! Remember? University, the road trip... Ring any bells?" Maverick negatively shook his head. Helen's faint smile faded away. "Do you remember what happened to us?" she asked. Maverick shook his head again, while pulling the second piece of glass from Helen's leg. He took a small towel from the Med Kit, and wiped up the blood from Helen's leg. "What about the others? Are they all alive?" she asked.
"Yes, the others are alive. Except for the pilot," he replied. "I found him dead in the cockpit."

Maverick pulled the last piece of glass from Helen's leg, and cleaned up the remaining blood. He then sprayed Hand Sanitizer onto his hands, put everything back in the Med Kit, and closed it. "Thanks for patchin' me up, Mav," Helen said. "Do you even remember your name?" she asked. Maverick shook his head again. "It's Maverick," she told him. He liked his name.

Helen and Maverick looked out onto the horizon, where thick, black clouds approached the island very slowly. "The pilot said something about an attack," Helen said. "Do you think China attacked the US?" Maverick had no idea what she was talking about. "Weren't you going to stay in one of those Vaults?" Helen asked. Maverick still had no idea what she was talking about, and shrugged his shoulders. Helen gave up the topic.

The two took a walk around the island, and studied it's geography. The island was fairly big, with a number of different trees in the middle. There was thin sand on the beaches, and a small river that went towards the middle of the island. The two walked for nearly half an hour around the entire island, and returned to the crashed plane.

When they arrived, one of the other survivors was awake, and having a cigarette.

Helen immediately recognized him. "Jack!" she shrieked while running towards him. She gave him a friendly hug, and the two began discussing their situation. Maverick recognized Jack's short, messy black hair, and his stubble. Jack approached him.

"Mav, you alright?" he asked, while blowing a cloud of cigarette smoke.
"Not really," he replied. "I have no idea what happened to us, and I can't remember much." Helen stepped in.
"He didn't remember me." she said to Jack. Jack grinned.
"Seriously?" he asked. Jack finished his cigarette, and threw the butt into the sand. He then noticed the black clouds in the distance. A look of worry hit his face. "What are those? They don't look like storm clouds," he said. His voice was very low and gruff.

Helen and Maverick joined in watching the clouds. They were approaching the island fairly fast now. "We should build a shelter," Helen said. The other two agreed, and the three of them began searching for supplies. Maverick unloaded everything from the plane, including pillows, food, and even the chairs. He stripped the plane bare, and brought everything onto the beach. While Maverick stripped the plane, Helen began grabbing logs from inside the island. She brought the longs onto the beach, next to the plane equipment.

While Maverick and Helen looked for supplies, Jack walked down the beach, and smoked another cigarette. He looked around the beach for rocks, wood and other building materials. He returned to the plane with merely an arm full of small logs, and a fairly large rock. He placed his findings on the beach next to the logs and things from the plane.

After around an hour of searching, the three sat by the plane and thought about how to build the shelter. They all had different ideas. Maverick wanted to build the shelter right on the beach, and use the remains of the plane as a sort of base for the shelter. Helen wanted to build it inside the island, next to this rocky area she had stumbled upon. Jack wanted to have another cigarette, and didn't care much for the location of the shelter.

Before they could settle on where the shelter would be, they noticed that the large black clouds had gotten quite close to the island, and there would only be a few more minutes before the clouds reached the island. Jack grabbed another cigarette from his black leather jacket, lit it, and placed it in his mouth.
