Combat Changes

Do you remember when you became master of Blade and you could perform the forward power strike. Now think about it when you did it looked like you just did a slight poke then retracted. Now imagine in Skyrim were you would do the same move but see the sword actually go in and potrude out the back. That would be sweet. I'm not technically saying make combat gorey, but make the animations for sword damage more grittier and realistic. :foodndrink:

They changed a lot based on the GI issue. It sounds more visceral and tactical.

Hopefully I'm not hitting something over and over again for 10 mins before it dies. Combat closer to Demon's Souls would be good for me. Not hitting something so many times it kills the fighting for me but not so little that character skill would mean absolutly nothing. Honestly the only thing from Demon's Souls fighting I would change is make the magic slightly weaker since its honestly much easier to use magic then melee. Well that and making a system work in first person but the health and how its managed is wonderful. I dont mind dieing in 2-5 hits anyway since its the same for them if my character is strong enough and it feels wonderful one shotting someone who used to kill me in one shot.

I agree but the body penetration feature has always been lacking in games with swords.

I know there has been a lot of topics on combat, but what I wanted to do is really go in depth with the animations on like how the sword damage animations would work.

 for the left and right wielding. I'm looking forward to using it; might be a way for me to actually like/use some magic.

 for the finishing moves. Just not needed, and I hope it's only at the end of combat - not during

As for the OP, um...ya, I onlt did those power moves by accident. That whole move direction + button + move mouse + keep target in view = way too complicated for me. And the extra gore doesn't really do it for me

edit: nor good animations. MW was just fine by me :)

Once again all I can say is look at Demons Souls. When you hit things it looked like you hit them and if you got a good couple of hits in they were either dead or their gaurd was broken and you could easily finish them off (unless of course your stamina was so low you couldent put together more swings then one). If you hit them with a big enough weapon they would studder back and their gaurd would be broken giving you a chance to finish them off but then again with that big weapon your attacks are slow and easy to dodge and you dont have the best defense so if they broke you your pretty much dead.

The GI mag did state that the finishing moves were more of a reward for a long fought battle so im guessing you can only use them to "finish" off your enemy so yes only at the end of the battle and im guessing it would be something along the lines of you break someones guard hit attack again and your guy stabs the other guy in the neck thus a finishing move.
