My old computer's motherboard fried but I managed to salvage my old hard drive and place it as a secondary in my new computer. Unfortunately I can not run oblivion from it. Also, my cd apparently is scratched and I get a CRC error when trying to install it on my new hard drive. Does anyone know if there is a way to get it working again on my secondary drive? Presumably there are files during the install that are saved outside of the hard drives themselves and the lack of these are being the problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you can access the Oblivion\Data and the saves on your old hard drive, You could consider using Steam or D2D installs of Oblivion. Just copy your old Data folder onto the new install, update OBSE and continue playing. You no longer need to worry about losing your disc.
EDIT You can always buy a new disc, Wal-Mart might still have Oblivion and Bioshock bundled together.

I considered trying steam but realized that the game lacks a CD key, which steam asks for in order to download. I assume when you recommend using steam or D2D you mean re-buying the game, correct? I will go that route if I have to, but the Scottish side of me insists upon exhausting all possible methods before paying for a product a second time .

Try cleaning your disc with a clear wax to fill in the sratches so the laser in the dvd drive can read the information on the disc.

Worse comes to worst, you can buy a brand-spanking-new copy of PC GOTY Oblivion on disk for what, $20? Even in these scary economic times that's not a bad investment. Heck, I'm thinking to buy a second copy as backup in case my disks go bad.

You are certainly right, but I wonder how much I am really going to play it between now and Skyrim, whether it is worth the money. Nevertheless, I used it so much already that $20 is more or less backlogged pay for overused hours, hehe.
