I'm hoping in the 200 years since Oblivion, the people of Tamriel have discovered how to make cowboy hats.

Blergh, I'll just make a descendant of one of my old characters instead of trying to think up an excuse for them to still be alive. Clean sheet that way.

As for advances, I hope we see a bit of a change in armour, more plate armour maybe? I'm quite sure technology does advance in TES, IIRC Pelinal Whitestrake's armour was crazy advanced for men of Tamriel of that age; it just does so reaaaally slowly. And I hope since there's a war we get to see stuff that makes the war work - a Venetian Arsenal-esque ship manufactory in one of the coastal cities would be kickass to see, or large(ish, depends on how organised the Nords actually are; maybe in 200 years they've incorporated some stuff from the Legions or the Empire in general into their own military and state apparatuses, as I'm sure the Empire would have something like that; or maybe they always had it) arms foundries to take advantage of the new smithing. Or, if manufactories didn't exist in Tamriel yet, they might've been developped by the time Skyrim begins. Couple with the potential to see farmers actually work the fields and stuff, and it really makes the world come alive and feel real, for me at least.

yeah, a descendent of my Daggerfall character would be cool too. But I don't know, at these times, I don't know why but I really want him to come back for a new and final adventure =D

In Infernal City the Mages Guild had been split up in two new factions. The College Of Whispers which is an organization that tutors and offers a home to mages and The Synod which is an association of experienced mages who has devoted their lives to discover the last secrets of magic and discover and master new forms.

Uhhh...where is this information, and how did you get it, or are you speculating? The only information we have thus far comes from the Infernal City, the first book, unless something was released that I do not know about.

Would it be possible for a Breton to survive the 200 years between Oblivion and Skyrim? Being basically a man/mer crossover, would they possess the same life-span as their Aldmeri cousins?

No, bretons live roughly the same amount of years as other humans, maybe slightly longer. Tiber, living to 106, was considered pretty long lived for a human, and it's hotly debated whether he was a breton or a nord.

Not much should have changed besides a couple of major things.

The destruction Of Vvardenfell, The Empire being less secure, Nords fighting like typical Barbarians. It should still be Elder Scrolls just different and a less Stable Empire.

You forgot that Black Marsh broke away from the Empire and conquered Morrowind mainland, which is pretty big

Regardless, there still is 160 year gap between the Infernal City and Skyrim, who knows that the heck could of happened. We can assume that at least the Empire by the time of Skyrim still has enough strength and power that a Civil War over whether to break away from the Empire or not

Not everyone's character has to be dead or a vampire.

An Altmer certainly has that life span, and some Dunmer might too.

Divayth Fyr was 4000 years old at the events of Morrowind. Whats another 200 to that?

divayth fyr was 4006 years old during the events of oblivion, in skyrim, he will be 4206 years old (if he hasnt died of age yet)

Well, it looks like the environment has shifted a fair bit in that time. The map has different climate zones, and while I can't exactly figure out what they mean, I'm sure white is more snowy and brown is less. There's a big brown section to the Southeast mountain ranges (and some grey volcanic tundra) which means it's probably hotter and dryer there, most likely due to some adverse effect of Red Mountain's eruption. Also, for some reason, the Northern Coast is colder than ever depicted, with some large glaciers to the NorthEast and cold environment everywhere.

Why do people want to bring their old characters back? It makes no sense for them to be the neravarine, champion of cyrodiil etc. It just doesn't :S

I didn't have the balls to come out and say that for fear of persecution, but yeah I totally agree. I like there to be some continuity with my characters from a RP perspective, but not the same person. I have actually made all of my character the posterity of ancillary characters from previous titles. For example, if I come across an NPC that I like, I make up a little back story and then whammo!, I'm playing as said NPC's son or nephew. Therefore i feel like my current character has some first or second hand knowledge of the events that preceded him, without having to actually be the same person.

Now back on topic. I would be surprised to see much in the way of new technology, even after 200 years. As it has been stated above, after the fall of a large empire there seems to be a backlash of ignorance and stagnation, both culturally and technologically. Almost like the world is in a state of shock and needs to recover. With regards to factions, I can't even begin to speculate beyond what has already been mentioned. Suffice it to say i HOPE there are many factions (a la Morrowind) that are all vying for a piece of the action. I want to see new factions rise from the ashes of the old ones, with small reminders of their roots sprinkled here and there.

One thing is for certain, there is room to mold the lore into a slightly new form . . . for better or worse.

Yeah I wonder If Lilmoth is up and running again, anyways. I hope Masser and Secunda have nice visual effects. Would be cool. Argonians and Dunmer will learn violence is never the answer when the time comes where Altmer invade the Eastern coast of Tamriel, and those two nations must learn to fight together.

A question that boggels my mind is this; whatever happened to the Oblivion character if he or she chooses to become a Vampire? I mean Two centuries is nothing short of 2 months to 'mortals'.

But yeah, I'm very interested at how this new world will differ to the Age of Akatosh presented in the 3rd Game. But I'm sure we will be told this by NPC-NPC conversations that will talk..and talk...and talk...
