Elder Scrolls Tabletop v2.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using an extensively modified version of d20, this project will attempt to fully recreate the Elder Scrolls setting into a tabletop game anyone with any experience in RPGs can play.
Be sure to expect:
  • A consistent system for solving every action possible.
  • Combat resembling that of Fallout.
  • A full-featured magic system with mechanics for spellcasting, alchemy, and enchanting.
  • Full translation of the setting of Morrowind, with later versions growing to encompass the entire continent of Tamriel.
  • Much, much more!

I'm sorry if this is a noobish question, but what do you mean by "Tabletop"?
Do you mean that it is like a board game, or a remake of the game?

I'm sorry for the noobish question, I'm just curious about what you mean by "Tabletop".

It means exactly what it says. A game played on the top of a table. Dungeons and Dragons is probably the most famous tabletop RPG, so I guess you could relate it to that. This game won't be using the AD&D rules though.

Considering how popular they are and how embedded they are into our culture it's very strange that people shouldn't know about them. Especially people who play a game that's based off of tabletop gaming.

So's it a good bet to say that this svcker is dead? For the last few days I've had a real good itch for some ES tabletop shenanigens, so much so to the point that I've been mentally working out various rules and calculations and whatnot, and if this project ain't going anywhere soon I've half a mind to start up another thread and see if anyone else wants to do some bullshootin' on the subject (heck, I've half a mind to do it no matter the answer, ES-flavored D20 doesn't appeal too much to me for some reason and the initial D100 offering is, shall we say, rough).

Go for it! You certainly couldn't have a worse attitude. I'd love to see a tabletop Elder Scrolls game - if they make an official one, even better - is anyone at gamesas/Zenimax listening?

Wouldn't it just be easier to take the AD&D ruleset and do a custom campaign using Elder Scrolls lore as the setting?

The character creation formula would be sorta easy. Based more on MW or OB? MW seems D&D like but OB would cut down on rolls i.e. Blades instead of Short or Long blades, for that matter armour too. Magika would be have to be a major factor. *pushes up glasses* Sorry my nerd got loose.

P.S. I'd rather have an entirely different rule set if i was to play a tabletop TES-based game. Make it unique like all TES games.

Even better, you could skip the die altogether and just use an excel calculator (I wrote one which handled all rolls and calcs, all you have to do is hit the appropriate "roll" button).

Whoa! Man I needed that in my D&D campain. But the core of the game needs something new to new it keep it separate from the other tabletop games.

The ideas I've got actually use a hybrid system of sorts based on what methinks are the better bits of functionality from each system. Rolls would be SPECIAL-style d100s at or below skills after subtracting/adding for armor class and conditions, movement and actions are D20-style (Move+Standard or full-round, five-foot steps and freebies when believable) and attributes would be set up kinda' like Daggerfall (50 points across the board plus-or-monus race stats, 50 points to distribute thereafterwards seemed to be the average when I did test rolls) plus a buncha' homebrew and ES-inspired stuff (additional stat points based on your current skill levels, multipliers as opposed to flat point increases ala D20). I've already got a whole buncha' junk jotted down, right now I'm grappling with how to address to-hit bonuses versus AC bonuses. I'll probably post the stuff either tonight or tomorrow.

How about rounding them down say +5 AC to a +3 roll would be a +4 for attacker.

It was more an issue of that the initial system I came up for determining to-hit and AC bonuses for high attributes was uneven in how much impact it had if given the same general amount of excellence in their stats, something like a 5-1 ratio in favor of to-hit. I think I've smoothed that out, though, by having the dodging skill control how much of a bonus you got with conditionals based on what kind of armor you used - being unarmored gave you the full bonus as dictated by the dodging skill, Light Armor gives you 75% of it, Medium gives 50% and Heavy gives a measly 25% which, when taken alongside the check penalties for it, makes taking Dodging almost pointless for a heavy armor user (though considering HA's high initial and potential armor AC it's not like it's a big loss for at least martial combat).

At least the current miniatures from the WotC D&D line are quite customizable. With some patience and ingenuity, you can make characters from the ES games. That's what I am doing here for a dio-story/photo novel:

I know some others who are bringing their gaming experience from the screen to their tabletops.

I'll just come right out and say it: I'm not cut out for this.

I've got the ideas, but I don't have the ability to organize them in any way that's easy to understand. Nor do I have the ability to figure out where my ambitions should end. I'm a terrible goal-setter, and the crazy stuff I had in mind is too much for one person to assemble.

So, barring some inspirational jolt of genius and planning ability from the hand of Oil Tycoon Jesus himself, this project is canceled.

(In fact, seeing all the other Elder Scrolls Tabletop projects I've seen that have blown up or otherwise never gone anywhere, I'm starting to think there's a curse.)

Anyway, should anyone want to see what I had in mind and where this was going, here's a zip file of every note and file I've created towards this project up to this point. You'll need OpenOffice to view most of them.
