Worldspace under water, then torn apart

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 3:54 am

I just got my worldspace in a condition where I was ready to walk around in it. So I put a door in the Lucky 38 presidential suite, leading to one of the buildings in my nice ruined street.

I stepped through the door and was underwater!

Then I went into the GECK and saw that my land was thousands of meters below the water level. I put land 1000 meters above water, then loaded it up again. I was still underwater.

I looked at it again in the GECK, and chunks were missing. I started it up again in-game, and the world was wrapped around itself, walking from one street to the next teleported me sometimes underwater, sometimes next to a mountain I don't remember placing!

Whee!

Any thoughts?

After a restful Thanksgiving, I looked at the worldspace in the editor again, and there were major changes to the heightmap and textures. It looked like another map were literally put on top of it. I thought it was because I was inheritting some aspects of the parent map, so I unchecked everything, and no change.

Then I editted another earlier worldspace I made, added a door from there to the Lucky 38, tried it out in-game...and the door from the Lucky 38 was gone. I opened up the game in the editor again. And now all my worldspaces are now gone.

At this point I'm guessing this is just a bug, and I will look out for this in the future. (I didn't bother to save a backup because I'm still just making test worldspaces; nothing useful was lost. :) )

Did you actually manage to edit/create a heightmap for your worldspace in the NV GECK? For some reason, the heightmap editor always crashes the NV geck for me, so I have to make it in the F3 GECK and then change master and import it into the NV GECK. I thought it was supposed to be a universal issue with the NV GECK?

Actually I did accidentally. That's where the heighmap came from; I was trying to generate LOD but accidentally created a random heightmap. So...no crashes on my end. :)

Aaaand...I just confirmed it. :) If you change your water settings after you've placed objects on your worldspace, it will tear up your world. It looks similar to messing up the stitching in the Dungeon Siege editor. Whee fun!
