Layers and customization for clothing and armour.

@Rhysuzaki: You should also have asked about layers...

I voted no because I couldn't, in good faith, answer "yes" or "I don't care". Now if there was an "Other" option I would've picked that. But as I said, as long as the clothing can't be enchanted I'm up for it.

fair enough. I still say that this thread is unnecessary, though.

I wouldn't say evolution since it was in morrowind.
An evolution from Oblivion (baby steps).

Just because something was done better in prior versions, then abandoned, doesn't mean the new version cannot evolve to achieve the same thing.
*Just look at the Fallout series. ;) (and hope for the best)

Morrowind didn't have Layered clothing/armour, unless I've forgotten that much about it. It had more customization in terms of individual pieces of armour but I don't remember being able to wear things over/under armour at my choosing.

yes you could wear a full set of clothes under your armor and pieces of it would stick out thru chinks in your armor ...it was beautiful

Avaiable slots:

Head- Hoods, helmets, hats
Upper Face - Highway men masks - kind that cover around the eyes but ntohing else for some reason./more ideas?
Lower Face - masks

Things involving the head or face may take up certain slot depending on what type of clothing or armor it is.

You can't wear a helmet with a mask or a full face mask with a lower face mask.

Back- cloak, cape, rucksac?

torso over- cuirass, chain meal, vest, suspenders,
Legs over - Armor(fur, leather,iron,etc), outer clothing
Torso under-regular clothing/maybe fur
Legs under- regular clothing/maybe fur

Neck- talisman/Amulet

Left Pauldron
Right Pauldron
Left Glove- Gloves/mittens
Right Glove
Left wrist -iron shackles/vembraces/bracelet
Right wrist

Certain pieces of armor or maybe even clothing can cover both wrists and hands. Like gauntlets.

Boots- Not so sure boots should be mixmatched(I'm on the fence with this one being left+right)
Ring 1
Ring 2

Robes use up slots over torso and over legs.

Some articles of clothing like cloaks and robes may have a hood that you can toggle on or off in the inventory/equip menu or whatever.

My ideal set up.

Only if you can't enchant clothing or else it will cause imbalance issues like in Morrowind.

What imbalance issues...

You're one person who has to fight at least 300 enemies by the time he beats the game. I liked morrowind because it was a reasonably difficult game, but at the same time it gave you lots of stuff to use to your advantage. If you feel its unbalanced, turn the difficulty up.

Yes, simply for the sake of greater customization, but I agree if there are too many items on your character that can carry enchantments it would create imbalance issues.

The important question is--Will this increase my fashionista skill level. :hubbahubba:

when someone posted that daggerfall had clothing and armor and even allowed you to pick how you wore you clock......hood up or hood down, there is no reason that a game from 1982 should have that but its not in skyrim.
