Do people ever learn their lesson anymore?

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 5:40 am

I was going to post this on the New Vegas forum, but this applies to all games. Why do people buy video games on a day one release anymore? Espically on PC. We all know that Bethesda when they release a game on PC it will always be buggy, very very buggy, but for the past 15 years we expect it from Bethesda, because that is what they do.

What I don't understand is why haven't peope lernt their lesson yet? Espically when it comes to PC games, where games are released early and patched later. This is in fact a sad way the industry is done now. So people should expect that any game released on Day One, will have bugs, could be unplayable. So why don't people wait? If you are inpatient (like me) then it's your own fault for buying a game that dosen't work.

Why don't people wait a week or two, or a month or two when the game is release and just go to the games forums. There you can read if there are any complaints about it on release day. You will see if their are problems with the game, be it that it's a crappy game and not as good as it was advertised, Civilization V for example, or if it's really buggy, or people having trouble playing, Civilization V or New Vegas for example.

Never ever rely on company run gamesites anymore for reviews like IGN, or Gamespot or what ever. You can't trust their reviews of a game. They are biased and don't give the true scores of a game. How on Earth can you give Civilization V a score of 9.0 or 9.5? Yes Civ V is an ok or good game, but not a great awsome game they claim to be. They get paid or they svck up to game companies to keep getting previews or exlusives. Their reviews are unrealiable. The only way to see if a game is any good these days are to wait a week and then go on the forums to see if there are any complaints. I can only trust common day user reviews as reliable if I will or will not like a game anymore.

As you can see for New Vegas there are many complaints. Go to the civilization site and you can see there are many complaints as well. So why are poeple shocked then? All they had to do is wait. Don't bother with pre-orders, don't buy the game on Day-one release. You will have to wait 2 weeks or more. You may even have to wait a month or two till a patch or two is out to see if a game is any good, like Masters of Orion 3 for example.

So if you can't wait to buy a game, then you have no right anymore to [censored] and whine or cry about it. What you do have is a right to complain about the product you bought, if you are unhappy with game play, or having trouble because of technical difficulties, but you can't [censored] or whine or cry about it. You say what is wrong, nicely, politely. Don't go ranting on about it.

Anyone who I see who complains or cries or rants about it, just looks foolish. People say it's even acceptable for game to be released early and patched later, so then knowing this, why would you want to chance buying a game that maybe unplayble then, if 100% of the companies do this?

So the lesson that should be lernt is never ever buy a game on Day One release. Wait a month or two after release and then see if people are happy with the game or not.

Hey, I consider my lesson well and truly learned. I learned it when it took a month before I was actually able to [censored] play Oblivion.

EDIT: Oh, wait, I picked up FIFA 10 pre-release. That hardly counts though. The basic premise of the game works, and no one ever expects the career mode to actually work anyway. Even after months of the game being out, so waiting doesn't really make too much of a difference there.

Because patches on consoles are a New Thing. Only last generation, what you shipped was what people got, if you wanted to make an update to it you had to release a whole new version.

Complains about New Vegas?.........I am buying BLACK OPS NOW!

:P
Maybe people should stop thinking that games are going to be amazing before they even play them. But TESV will hopefully will be excluded from that rule.

Not every game is a buggy mess. Some developers are actually capable of ironing out the issues pre-release. As tiring as moaning gets online, customers have every right to be upset when their game ships broken. Besides, there are plenty of trustworthy sites out there with impressions that are often very critical (not to mention just because you disagree with any given website doesn't mean they're being paid off :P).

Of course you should wait if whoever the game is coming from has a track record for selling lousy games, but I'd hardly place blame on consumers when a publisher deems their terrible product worthy of your hard earned dollar, shipping it to stores.

It is no longer just PC games, ever since the 3rd generation consoles started patching their games, developers started to become lax on their QCing. Also, it is the size of the audience that prompts the developing into rolling out patches or contents.

Nope TES:V willl have lots of bugs that people will complain about. Geez after what 15 years of buying Bethesda games, I EXPECT TES:V to have bugs lol. :celebration: I would think something is wrong if it didn't. LOL.

The lesson here is not "don't buy games on release day" its "if you buy games on release day, expect bugs." I'll buy my games whenever I want, thanks.

Anyways, aren't you just complaining about complainers again? Complaints are to be expected and can't be avoided. People will voice their opinions if they don't like something, and I bet that buying later or reading reviews won't really help. We (that is humans) are an entitled bunch.

Hey, how do you buy games before they come out? :P

Besides, if nobody bought on the release date, then who would give feedback? Who'd submit bug reports? Your suggestion is just delaying the whole thing by a month or two, in my view.
