How long is the original Fallout?

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 6:57 am

Haven't beaten it yet. I'm at the Brotherhood of Steel. I'm just wondering because I've already unlocked all the areas and some (like the Hub and Junktown) have very little to do in them, initially.

There's a lot at the HUB if you talk to the right people....

As for hours wise, it can be a decent length game. I cant think of how many hours though...

The original Fallout is not very long, but it will depend on how much you explore and so on. It's for the better if you ask me, because the content that is there feels like it belongs and there are no real drops in quality if you ask me. There are no sections in that game that I dread replaying and I can't say that for a lot of RPGs (including the other Fallouts).

Yeah FO1 is very short with RPG standards.
Fallout2 however makes up for that.

If it's your first playthrough, depending on how much experience you have with this kind of RPG and if you figure out how all the functions and possibilities work, you'll probably be busy for 20 to maybe even 30 hours. It isn't as long as most RPG's nowadays, but it's highly replayable, a different character will have different opportunities, possibilities and outcomes and gives you a really different playthrough in the end.

Fallout is notoriously short, but it makes up for it with having the highest quality atmosphere, story and content out of all of the games in the series thus far. Fallout 2 and 3 are a lot bigger (and thus longer), but they have a lot more mediocre to just outright awful content.

Looks like you've played a little less than 50% of the game.

What's so fun about Fallout 1 is that despite being short compared to the other RPGs out there, it has a much better replayability because of how different character really is, and how every situation is dealt really differently.

For instance, with Fallout 3, near level 20 your character who started as a charismatic guy who avoided all fights ends up as a soldier mauling down super mutants like your other soldier characters.

Every Fallout 1 quest and situation is more unique depending on your SPECIAL and skills, and can be solved in many different ways. I'd say that you have more to do in Fallout 1 (and 2) compared to 3, since in 3, most of the time you spend is walking around the wasteland.
