Proposed Merges

So, once again, Wrye Mash says my plugin list is too freaking big and will turn off a good deal of them to make its list fit, so I need to combine some plugins together.

The question is... what ones? Being only a novice modder myself, I find myself mystified by what I must do, so I think I'll leave it up to you more advanced modders.

Here is my mod list from mlox. I will clarify the unknowns I have created to help with the suggestions you give me.

Now, for the unknowns:

R.D.'s Stuff - These are my own personal creations. I often have to edit this so I try to keep it out of everything else, though its currently dependent on the three original master files and Book Rotate, and a couple other mods such as the Secret Getaway (hidaway001.esp).

R.D.'s Clothing Placement - Back before I learned that the Construction Set can only auto-load so many masters, I wanted certain clothes from Morrowind Comes Alive for my PCs available, but I couldn't without killing someone/cheating. But I didn't know about the rules concerning master file loading, so I couldn't get it to open more than once. Its dependent on Morrowind Comes Alive.

Armor Additions - An already-merged plugin for mods that add armor sets and such to the game. I try to add new armor plugins to it whenever possible.

Weapon Tweaks - The same as Armor Additions, but for weapon modifications. I try to add new weapon plugins to it whenever possible.

Morrowind Abodes - These are all of the "Your (townnamehere) Residence" mods created by Morrowind Abodes, merged into a single plugin.

Morrowind Fixes - Mods that involve fixing overlooked glitches in the game, such as improper body part setting or dialogue errors and things of that nature.

Please note that my copy of Guarded Ghostgate is currently modified to be compatible with Complete Morrowind, as activating them both normally removes half a bridge and plants a tree through a platform. I dunno if that'll affect anything important. Also, it'd probably be best if I did NOT merge any mods that update frequently, such as abot's Guars, Water Life, and Bird mods.

So, I'm open to suggestions:

What should I do?


Personally I'd combine all of your Portcullis mods since none of them conflict with one another, there is no harm to do so, I'ld also combine all of your smaller weapon and armor mods into a single mod, there really is no reason to have twinblades of azinoth, the iceblade, and similar mods as standalones, they barely add anything to the game, same goes for most armor and weapon mods, they typically add an item or 10 but nothing substantial, and few if any actually conflict with one another, so there is little risk in combining them all into one single mod. That being said however, it is always wise to back up your mods folder before doing any merging, just in case.

Good luck, also I would double check readme's on some of your mods, it appears that you have both a tribunal and bloodmoon version of a few mods, I would double check those readme's to make sure if both are actually required or if just the bloodmoon one would suffice.

I suggest converting esm files to esp if you want to edit them using a utility such as Wrye mash or 'Tes dependancy toolkit' then convert back to esm after editing, you can remove needless mod dependancies with those utilities s well.


I merge mods together that are of a similar type , or related in some way like i have a merged armour mod which includes all parts of the divine domina series for example, i have an uber texture and model relacer which is my own mixed and matched collection and contains all the various textures and model replacers i like . and i like to merge mods by location as well so i would merge all mods affecting Balmora into a single mod , all mods affecting Seyda Neen into a single mod and so on.

Vivec expansion expanded ?

Once merged i suggest you use 'Tesfiles' to repack your merged mods then store the re-packed mods on cd or external hardrive so when your hard drive packs up or needs restoring as all hard drives do eventually , you won't lose your hard work , plus it makes installing a new game a lot easier if you only have to install a relatively small number of merged mods than lots of seperate fiddly little ones.

Erf. That's a lot of merges to make. Looks like I'll have to save that for this weekend. Thanks for the suggestions, though, they'll be useful.

Question: with Wrye Mash, will I be able to change dependencies as well as remove them? Because the Solsthiem Castle add-on requires Beauty Pack as a parent, and if that'll be on one of the changes, well...
