BOOTMGR

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 12:29 pm

Hey all.

I recently formatted a 250gb drive of mine with the intention of installing Windows XP on it later on. The problem is, I think it formatted a LOT more than it needed to, and took necessary boot files with it.

When trying to start up the PC I got "BootMGR is missing" error. I've tried booting from CD drive, and I've also changed the boot order to exclude the HDD. Still no luck :/

I was wondering if there were any trustworthy and efficient software out there that can repair my empty HDD?

Thanks :)

If you formatted the drive, it's expected that your computer won't boot... ;) Everything necessary to boot your computer will be installed when you install Windows.

The fact that you also can't seem to boot from a CD suggests something else is wrong. Double-check your BIOS settings. Also make sure nothing is wrong with the CD. Give it a spin on an other pc, one that you know does work. Or try a known working CD on this pc.

just a thought, but are you sure you got a bootable windows xp cd ?
there is different versions, one that wasn′t bootable, and you either had to start it from windows,or using 6 windows xp floppies from "dos" =boot with those floppies.
and there is of course bootable versions, got one my self that comes with servicepack 2.

Hey guys I'm back.

Thanks for your replies but I figured out the problem. The SATA cable that runs from the CD drive to the Motherboard was defective. I'm going to pick one up tomorrow :)

Mods can close the topic :D
