Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 11:09 pm

a couple of questions.

Do i need to have a mouse to have fully functionally looking, instead of having the anolog stick of the 360 controller, is it possible to switch the attack form the anolog stick to something else. Also when i try to move why does it seem im going slow

Warning to those with a wireless Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for Windows: Neither ControlMK nor XPadder will properly recognise the controller or allow you to set up or use the D Pad.
I've just spent most of the afternoon and all evening trying to get this to work properly, searching the web for solutions, but there do not seem to be any. I've just wasted a lot of money on a controller that doesn't work with these programs and thus not work with older programs like Morrowind, or badly supported programs like Oblivion that don't natively work with an Xbox 360 controller.

Funnily enough it works fine in games that do fully support the xbox controller like Fallout 3, so it's not that the actual controller is faulty.

so it doesnt allow you to use the d pad... but does the rest of it work? I got mine to sorta work with it.... except the view would float and everytime i shot something once i was done it would snap into 3rd person back from 1st

It never worked that well for me, and as a caster not having quickslts was a big dealbreaker.

I actually ended up buying Pinnacle: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/ after trying out their free trial.

I made my own profile for Oblivion on it. It took a while to get hang of how to use the program, but once I got it all working, it works perfectly. It also allows my to use the controller for my other videogames, which is awesome. :)

I'm confused about one part of this guide. I got up to step five, but I have no clue what he's talking about...

NEW ADDITION: For people confused about the .Pro file, click the name of a button (X axis, Y Axis, Button 1, etc) and select a keyboard or mouse button for the drop-down box. The buttons go in this order:

A
D
W
S
Mouse left click
Mouse right click
Mouse move X neg
Mouse move X pos
Mouse move Y neg
Mouse move Y pos
Space
Tab
F
E
Shift
C
T
Escape
Control
R

The keyboard buttons have a VK_ prefix, like VK_R in the drop down menu.

The finding the .Pro file thing was crossed out so I didn't do it, but what is he talking about with clicking the name of a button and then a keyboard or mouse button. I don't know where to put any of this. I'm sorry if I can't elaborate on what the problem is, but I'm just confused when I get to this part so it's hard to explain. Can someone just elaborate on this, or take a screenshot or something for me? It would help a lot. Thanks.

The .Pro file is a profile that the ControlMK software uses to translate between your 360 controller, and what the game really expects to see. I would assume what he is talking about there is the configuration screen for ControlMK. If you fire it up, there should be some option or other to "set up" what the buttons on your controller will do.

Ah, thanks. What really threw me off was the order of the buttons because it seemed wrong to me, but everything works now. Thanks!

So what is the consensus on the absolute best wired/wireless Xbox 360 controller solution for Oblivion on PC? Is it Pinnacle?

Because I'm willing to pay, as long as what I'm getting is the best overall solution. Also, if I get Pinnacle, will that enable me to use a Xbox 360 controller to play Morrowind on PC?

Everything works fine for me except one thing. My character keeps moving on his own when I let go of the controller. He doesn't move around insanely but he still moves. I tried everything and can't get him to stop moving. I use Xpadder. Anyone else had the same problem?

I guess I will try Pinnacle then. It's the only thing I haven't heard anyone complain about, other than it actually costing money to run. Anyone disagree?

XPadder is pretty damn good in fact, the problems I'm facing are minimal. Pinnacle costs money, but we both know there's always a way around this problem.

I'd be real careful with statements of that nature......

Joy2Key seems to work fairly well for folks as well.

Well I see I don't have to post what I wanted to post.

IMO controlMK is too complicating. There are easier-to-understand programs out there such as xpadder. And it doesn't require you to mess with the ini.
