Washing line meshes

Post » Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:56 pm

Hi everyone,

One or two years ago someone was working on a number of meshes which could be used with a washing-line. Basically, clothes which looked like clothes rather than parcels if they were put in the game world.

Does anyone else remember this project? And was it finished? I would like to use these meshes in the Victorian City mod.

Many thanks in advance,

Swiveller

You should be able to do this with any clothes, just in the CS, there are two different meshes used for any object, one for the "ground" version, and one for the worn version, just edit the object in the CS to use the "worn" mesh for both ground and wearing......at least I think thats what you mean.

funny you should mention this. recently i had to reformat my hard drive so i have been spending the last few days putting the contents of 25 cds worth of mods and resources back onto my computer. and i just about 30 seconds ago put a zip file back on called simply WASHINGS. let me cut and paste the read me see if its what you wanted

Washings:

Pants textures by Korana, based on Bethesda's

Pants mesh by NioLiv

Skirts and shirts are modified Bethesda meshes, modified by TextureFreak

now while i do not yet have nifscope reinstalled on my hard drive i can not check thses out but i think they are clothes made to look like they are hanging like you would put on a line.

yes you are right it it was used in yesterbreeze i believe that it was a special request filled by korana for the mod

Thanks everyone! I will try your suggestions.

Mystery05 - do you remember where you downloaded the 'washings' mod? I'm afraid ES search doesn't yield any results.

well im not sure it was ever put up on a download site officially . so other then regaez and myself im not sure who else grabed it back in 2008 when it was given to him. since i do believe it was a personal request done for yesterbreeze i have no problem asking regaez if he woud mind sharing it. i do have the resource as i said it would just be a matter of me putting it up on rapid share.
it does look really sweet as i have wandered along the ally ways where the stuff is hanging . and would certainly save you alot of work im sure. i will put a pm into regaez or if you feel more comfortable asking him yourself im pretty sure he also would still have this resource.
i would pop it up right now if i was sure that it wouldnt be a matter of stepping on anyones toes.

The models where shown in preview shots of the never completed Pelagiad Expanded. I think they where made by applying a screen shot to a transparent flat mesh.

A quick experiment in blender yielded http://www.nicholiathan.com/morrowind/Images/hangingshirt.jpg. Here's how I did it:
  • import a better clothes model
  • select and delete the armature
  • join all the parts together as a single object
  • in edit mode remove duplicate vertices (so the clothes don't fall apart)
  • in weight paint mode remove all the weight groups
  • create a new vertex group called Pinning
  • paint a couple of points of red weight for the pins
  • bake the cloth simulation in object mode
  • advance the frame to an appropriate part of the simulation
  • apply scale and rotation crtl-A
  • export the result

Provide me a list of the models you want hung & I can whip them out by the weekend

ok i installed nifscope so i could take a look and the one i have the meshes are defenatly not flat. they have depth to them and are defenatly 3 dementional to a certain extent though they appear to be flattned out since they are designed to look hung . for instance the pant legs are hollow and the texture is different on the front and back . so you wont see the fly when you look at the back side of the hanging clothing. the resource has pants shirts and skirts. i just looked at the shirts. and they also are not totally flat and even have a portion at the top where it looks like a bit of the clothing folds over the line for pinning.

Thank you, Nicholiathan :foodndrink:

I think that what we need most is a few simple shirts, trousers, and skirts. Most people in the city will have low to average incomes; expensive robes and costumes should be uncommon.

The Victorian city mod currently uses the default 'common clothes' meshes for the commoners (the NPCs are scripted to wear random items from a leveled list; but this you probably already knew).

If you would like me to give you a more specific list I will ask the others at the project forums.

Many thanks,

Thank you for taking all this trouble. Could you perhaps upload the mod to megaupload or a similar service? I am afraid I cannot find it online.

i sent a pm to regaez to ask him if its ok as soon as i hear from him i wil let you know and if it is ok . then i would probably use rapid share as that is what i am familuar with . something else i thought of was some clothing resource mods use a very flat type ground mesh. which maintain the shapes of the clothing. such as body suit and a few other shirt and pant types. perhaps these could also be used to represent hanging clothing just a thought.

As much as I want to have these washing items unique to YB, I can't leave a fellow modder in need! The washing clothes are by TextureFreak and Korana. Korana sent me them personally upon request, however I am sure she won't mind if I let you use them also.

Here are a couple of screenshots of them being used ( http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd41/Regaez/Yesterbreeze/ScreenShot292.jpg, http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd41/Regaez/Yesterbreeze/MGEScreenshot045.jpg) in Yesterbreeze. There are 12 items in total: 4 pants, 3 shirts, and 5 skirts.

I can upload them to MegaUpload for you... I just need to find them first. :P
