Is there a way to invert something on an axis?

Post » Fri Oct 01, 2010 2:40 pm

ok im making a statue mesh out of pieces of armor, and for the greaves_ul part( the thigh part) there is a certain way the mesh looks, only thing is, there isnt a mesh for the left leg and when i rotate it or just move it over it look stupid. so i was wondering if there was a way to invert it on the z axis to that its kinda like i mirror image of the right part of the leg.

-thanks! :)

Hit the M key for Mirror, then type X, Y, or Z for which axis you want to invert on. After that, Ctrl+F and choose Flip Normals from the menu to turn it right-side-out again.

It's CTRL+M, x,y,z , M will just open the layer-menue. CTRL+F is not necessary, in case there should be some normals pointing to wrong direction, try CTRL+N (recalculate outside) first. You can make normals visible in the Mesh Tools More panel in edit mode!!! ;)

I wish they would add the ability to invert objects in nifskope just to make things like this easier.......for one because I can't get the nif importer/exporter to work in blender on my machine, and two because I just prefer the simpler nature of nifskope for editing meshes. but meh.

it's just M for me, and I find that CTRL+F works better as CTRL+N sometimes misses a few faces. I'm making the assumption that the mesh he's inverting already has normals all pointing in the right direction, so CTRL+F will be sure to hit them all.

EDIT: Okay, I checked, we're both right - it's CTRL+M when in Object Mode and M while in Edit Mode. I've been doing it in Edit Mode for the past many days (I've been making clothes), so I just quoted what I've been doing.
