Question about children of morrowind installation

Post » Sat Oct 02, 2010 8:29 pm

Ok so the readme says to drop the sound folder into your datafiles directory. It will automatically merge with your previously existing sound subfolder. But when i do it says this folder already contains a folder named "sound". If the files in the existing folder have the same name as files in the folder you are moving or copying they will be replaced. The children of morrowind sound folder has a CR folder in it and my normal morrowind sound folder does as well. Will the stuff in the normal CR folder be deleted or what? Please help I really wanna play this mod!

No, the contents of the existing subfolder and the CoM subfolder will be merged into one. The only files that would be overwritten/replaced would be those of the exact same name as the pre-existing ones, which there almost certainly are not, since these are sounds specific to the children, which do not have any pre-existing sound files, if you follow.

This message from Windows causes a truly unnecessary amount of alarm to people, which I resent on your behalf :) . What people don't realize is that when Windows talks about overwriting folders, it's quite literally talking about the folder object, and not the folder contents, which are separate, individual further objects in the "eyes" of the OS.

The folder object will be "replaced" by the exact same thing (a folder object of the same name), but the existing folder contents will be merged with the added folder contents. So you wind up with a "new" folder that has the exact same name as the old one, and sits in the same place, but contains both the previously-installed and the newly-installed content objects.

Don't worry. Enjoy CoM :) .
