Combat Realisticness

Faster combat grows older slower. Faster combat allows you to reach new content faster. Faster combat means you get to fight more baddies in a shorter amount of time. Faster combat is exciting. This is ok with me.

i voted in between. in Mw it was unrealistic cause youd slash something, but not really. But it was sort of realistic cause when you hit them it did much more damage. meanwhile in OB youd slash something way too many times. I have know clue how they could fix it, so i think they should work on animations so fighting is a bit cooler, while keeping the OB fighting system. For me though tht makes another problem. the prob. being tht i like the Mw magic system. so to be able to fail at magic, and not fail at melee combat doesnt work. wht a predicament lol. :biglaugh:

crap accidentally got rid of the qoute thing. Anyway since this is a combat thread ill just say it. You should be able to fist fight without being arrested, and with out killing the guy. So someone says something, you taunt them, you fight them, they lie bleeding on the ground. simple. this would be even better if it took place in skyrim, considering their laws are all for that, i think.

I think it should be realistic, but that maybe depending on who defeats you, you might get taken captive rather than be killed. It would also be nice if combat were more about defeating enemies than killing them.

I totally agree. Although I would add this: faster combat means killing enemies faster, killing faster means more realism. So in order to get faster combat realism is the way to go :toughninja:

This thought came to mind when I was playing Ghost Recon. Should Bethesda make combat more realistic or unrealistic in The Elder Scrolls V? Realistic would be swords killing you in 1-3 shots and unrealistic would be Oblivion combat mechanics. I think it would be better realistic, but that's just me. Open discussion :D
Great idea. Never ever had anyone thought of this ! *end of irony*

Tip: When RPGs started, combat was realistic.

But very soon, people started to think they dont want to reroll new characters all the time, and hitpoints where invented.

But! If it were to become more difficult (so difficult that you want to murder your computer :P) to actually land a blow then you wouldn't have to worry about that!

maybe that's because "realistic combat" was implemented in an unrealistic way. The first rpg's weren't exactly the best simulations for "realistic combat." A computer game isn't going to make combat realistic, so the best it can do is portray this kind of combat in the most accurate way. Maybe for the first games that meant one hit kills, but nowadays computers might be able to create a new "game" in which people actually need to use various skills in order to attack enemies in the first place.

Hit points could be realistic for heavily armored warriors (the armor would significantly reduce damage), but for lightly armored warriors it might be better to have a system of automated or activated dodges combined with pre-programmed parries, counterattacks and activated "special attacks."

I think a realistic combat system would be better. It would force players to fight smarter and ACTUALLY use their block button instead of running into a combat situation and mindlessly hacking everything in sight and still be able to walk out with half health. I would sort of like the block to imitate Assassin's Creed's block where when you block, you deflect their blows. But... I'll reply again with more on this. I'm going now out with my wife. DATE NIGHT!

Combat dependent on dice rolls, like in Daggerfall and Morrowind.

What I freaking hated about the "deadly reflex" mod was that, nearly all NPCs could do that insanely well-timed and quick dodge move, unbalanced considering the NPCs have perfect reflexes in that context.

I said kind of in-between. they shouldn't ever resort to turn based -- Shudders -- but they need to change something. I think they should have an -- don't kill me -- Assasin's Creed type combat system. Not the deadly finishers and blocking while killing moves, but there should be different combat controls than normal controls. this way, Bethesda would triple their space for combat controls while leaving normal controls untouched. Skill should determain A.) skill perks B.) accuracy on body parts (head does more damage to hit points, legs hurt speed, arms damage strength) and C.) reaction time. strength would determine damage, and speed would also help determine reaction time.
