[REQ] Stealth Traps/Explosives

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 1:07 pm

I brought this up the other day in the FWE thread but didn't get any responses so I thought I'd give'r another shot. I'd love the heck out of this idea becoming a reality, but if'n there are no takers I understand.

On a different note I have a request/question and not sure if I should post a new thread or just put it here but here goes: Stealth Explosives. I want them and think they should be a part of the game. See, I'm in Megaton and I sneak up to the sheriff's door and try to breach it by setting off a grenade for 30 seconds. Nobody saw me sneaking and I had plenty of time to go and hide while it blew up. Funny enough a "Megaton Settler" walks up to the trapped door and leans on it right when the whole thing explodes. Megaton Settler is on the ground in a pile and I laugh to myself about it all (my character is not exactly a paragon) but when I get close to the door people start hollering and shooting at me. WTF? There's no way they could have known it was me. Maybe suspected, since I"m new in town, but who would just start shooting at somebody without proof of them doing it? So I'm hoping there's a way to implement stealth in bomb placement. I figure, a stealth check should be in place when setting up the explosive and that's it. If you pass that check nobody could know it's you. Maybe another stealth check in order to hide after at the most. I don't know. It would be cool. Thoughts?

Sort of an oxymoron, no?

Being able to pick up things like bear traps that don't make much noise would be great, though.

Not sure I follow you. My point is that if you successfully sneak while setting the trap, how the heck is anybody going to know it was you what set it once it explodes? Does the explosion call out your name? Does the dust cloud form into a likeness of your face? It's highly unrealistic for an explosion to go off and everybody to just start shooting at you. What would be realistic is people noticing the person setting the explosive or trap or what-have-you and THEN getting upset. That's where there should be a skill check. Maybe explosives + sneak or something.

Yeah, I know, that makes sense. "Stealth Explosives" just sounded kinda funny.

I believe the game does have ownership set for explosives when they're placed, so they'll know its you even if there was no one there at all when you set it and then someone comes along and triggers it. At least that's what I read. I would settle for just being able to place the other sorts of traps down.

Explosive Breach in FOOK2 is supposed to work the way you want, but I don't recall if I ever got that part working perfectly - it's been a while.
