Give me a dog that won't die easily and can carry stuff and I'm all set. Don't have much truck with other companions, usually.

I'd rather not have followers at all, and if there are some I'd rather they be "expendable" hirelings without their own quests. I hate the fact that I have to constantly babysit due to stupid AI. In New Vegas Boone was the only one that didn't tick me off, and that's because he killed everything before it got close to him. No chance of that in an Elder Scrolls game. Too much melee, and much too easy to hit your companions if they get in the way.

if they are done right yet. the followers you got in vanilla oblivion were horrible. slow and really bad in combat, however some of the modded ones were fun to play with. and since i used mods that made the game more difficult they didnt OP everything unless i use more than 2 at a time. new vegas companions were very well done and i didnt have the issues with them like in fallout 3 where they ran in front of me all the time. the only issue in NV was boone and his super sniper rifle and the little girl who could punch everything to death after you gave her power armor.

edit: if they do include them i think adventure buddies is a suitable name for them. :)

In New Vegas I sort of found that once you had completed their personal quests, any potential for character development was lost, as was my interest in the follower. Besides I sort of like the idea of the lone hero

In Dragon Age Origins, I liked having a group in camp, crossing paths with similar individuals, and getting to know other characters. I think companions would also be great additions to some quests.

Still, it doesn't seem right to have followers help you beat the game or be on par with you in TES. I think there should be a few followers you can come across and recruit throughout the game, but that they also have their own things to do and can't join you for the bulk of the quests. They can live at your house or a Fighters Guild branch and meet up for certain things.

Edit:

I like having companions, but I don't want a Fallout 3 or NV experience. Companions shouldn't help with everything, follow you everywhere, and basically drop their own lives. It works for Fallout well enough, but it's not right for TES and wouldn't let me feel like the hero, either.

We have mods for this. With the new scripting features of Fallout, they are quite easy to do.

"We" as in PC gamers. Yes, "you" have mods for this. "We" as in us console gamers do not have any mods whatsoever. So, yes. I certainly want companions. Sort of like how they did it in Fallout: New Vegas would be fine but of course there is always room for improvement :) Just make sure the A.I. is smart enough to know to flank so I don't end up killing my companion with my sword because he got in my way :batman:

I would like followers IF they change the combat AI compared to OB where they seemed to have a personal goal to get in your way

I'd like it, but I feel like talkie toaster or someone else who did amazing partner mods will do it better anyway. Though partners were done amazingly well in New Vegas. If it's closer to that, I'm all for it. I want to adventure with a party.

So whats your thoughts of having followers? You know, those lil NPC helpers that you deck out in cool adventure gear and go goblin hunting with?

I personaly would like something similar to FONV were you can have multiple followers, but would like to have more than just three. (I always wanted to ride around with all nine of the Knights of the Nine in Oblivion without having to have a mod)

And now that I think about it, being able to have evolving relationships with followers would be interesting, too. The more you adventure with them, the more backstory you get + the better they fight with you.

So....thoughts?

well i have to vote yes, but only if undead minions count, because i roleplay necromancers and dark mages and hope they add the feature to create permanent minions using bones and flesh and stuff like that it could also finally make a use for the item other than decoration make a small army and do your thing :P
EDIT oh and i dont know if anyone seen the new screens for skyrim but one of them shows a man walking near the player and he has a rather large dog walking with him, that would be awesome, to adventure across the land with your companion, by your side, scouting for danger and to keep you company as a friend.

Only if the followers are likeable and actually play a role kinda like the ones in BW games. They give their opinions, you could talk to them about many things etc.

If it's just some lousy stay here/come with me I'd rather be alone. Oh, and they better be smart, not run in front of my arrows or ruin my stealth approach.

Oh God no, the AI of followers is usually dreadful and you lose a lot of the game enjoyment by having others kill for you. Companions and parties IMO only make sense in top down games/games with pause (like kotor) where you have much more control.

Yes to followers! But please, don't make me worry about them all the time. Marking them as essential, like they did in FO:NV, is a solution here. Should be optional though.

Most of all, I'd like a dog.
