Robes with Transparency mod

Post » Tue Oct 05, 2010 8:02 am

I'm looking for female robes that have transparent textures down to the skin (while she's wearing other armor). Is this even possible? The closest I got was Herdy Gerdy's robes but they don't show the actual skin of my toon, just skin of a generic human, I think.

it needs to be a robe and go in the robe slot because she's wearing other armor but I want the overall effect to be feminine and somewhat daring. (Yes, I'm female, I just like my character's awesome tattoos [using altaran race with tattoos and they are rad] to be shown off.)

I downloaded a lot of mods with clothes, and they're really cute and some of them are just what I'm looking for but they don't go in the robe slot and so they're covered up by that stupid Cuirass of the Savior's hide that my character insists on wearing (something about stats are better than looks, which I totally disagree with but she's the one who has to cart all that armor around).

Any clothes using the robe slot make the characters torso and upper arms invisible. So you'll need to choose between looks and protection ;)

You could change the armor rating of whatever daring bit of clothing it is you want to wear in the CS to match glass/daedric/adamantium. Of course, on it's own that is cheating. Would be better to make a separate copy of the daring bits of armor in the CS with the higher ratings and then give those to a merchant. That way, you at least have to buy the armor with the higher AR.

Edit: Oh, I think I see what you're saying. In other words, it's impossible because the character's torso and upper arms become invisible once you put a robe on?

Hmmmm... Maybe it's time to ditch the Savior's Hide, but Resist Magicka being bumped to 100% is so nice, especially with Atronach--whatever I don't absorb, I resist!

Still, as Enzo said, there's nothing stopping me from picking out my favorite dress and giving it all the stats that I'd be losing by not wearing other pieces of armor in the CS set. ;)

Well technically, it's not. :P She'll have the same stats she had before, she'll only look different. By that logic using any weapon mesh replacers, for example, is cheating hehe

One could make the robe race specific and attach the correct bodyparts to the robe (ex. BB High Elf Mesh attached specifically to a BB clothing mesh that allows alphas); so, while said robe could show skin and maintain its proprietary nature as a robe, it would really only be "proper" in appearance on the race of your choosing (but for a personal mod, this is an ideal method if you do not want to support any race save for the one chosen as the PC). Else, if one wanted to make the mod for all races, then it would be a matter of applying the right textures for each race to the "skin" part and then allow for scripting to make sure the the right race gets the corresponding mesh :D .

Westly! I was hoping you'd show up because I'm using an Altaran--gorgeous, right, and now you understand why I want to show off her tattoos. ;)

I'd be interested in a robe like that as well, just for times when I take Gatanas about the town at night, and I want those excellent glowing tattoos of hers to be seen through the clothing. I know there are some shirts you can by in the Pelagiad via COV I think that are transparent, in black, white, and red. I guess the trick would be can it be done for a full robe?

Unfortunately no - like Westly said, robes fully remove the chest, upper arm, groin, and thighs of any character that wears them, regardless of what actual body part you slot the robe into. Shirts can be made transparent for Better Bodies if they are slotted to the left ankle body part, but because robes are worn over top of armor, they have to remove the parts they remove in order to not clip hideously with cuirasses, pauldrons, and greaves - this is hardcoded into the game. Skirts are the same way, removing the groin and thighs; any transparent Better Bodies skirts are classed by the game as pants in order to get around this.

True robes (i.e., that equip as robes and not shirts) that show skin require racial scripting if they are to be released or given to companions. Westly's described method would work and be rather nice looking, and could even be done fairly simply to any Better Bodies skin-revealing "robe" that has already been made. You'd need to edit the mesh and the .esp for said robe, but the end result would give the effect you want and the edits are simple.
