Better use of horses

I rather not have my horse fight. It's not like they do that much damage, and they're expensive. Having it die is a hassle. A way to call it would be nice.

Removing fast travel would do a world of good for the usefulness of horses (or other kinds of mounts), public transportation and teleportation spells, not to mention exploration and immersion in the game world.

But this is 2011, so yeah, quest markers and instant travel are here to stay. Thankfully, I can mod them out. Hopefully Skryim will be pleasurable to just walk around in and explore, like Morrowind was (and still is)... and unlike Oblivion, sadly.

Acshully, the HUD is toggleable, so I presume this means that the quest markers will go with the HUD

Although I don't want a compass for any quests, I DO want a marker on my map to show me where the heck my horse ran off to while I was killing those wolves, and I'd rather s/he ran away than tried to fight them. And I want to be able to toggle markers for all my horses on and off so that I can see where they all are, not just the one I rode most recently. That's if there are horses in the game of course.

They never said anything about it being toggleable. They said first-person has no HUD at all. Now that might mean 3rd person has a HUD, but there's not more info on that.

There's a horse in an image in the Game Informer that shows a crouched archer looking at it in a forest.

It's an elk not a horse.

I'm mostly hoping for improved horse animations. The horses in Oblivion couldn't be any more wooden and stiff if they tried.

And I remember the person who designed them in the dvd that came with my game talking about how natural she was obsessed with making them... yeah, great job. *travels away on my 2x4*

How bout Red Dead: Redemption instead lol?

Well yeah that game had incredible horses, but it was more focused on horses than Skyrim will be.

Ability to leap onto a horse's back from above.

So in other words you want to be Xena: Warrior Princess.

Yes, more distinguishable horse characteristics are needed.

Each horse can have different characteristics and conditions like:

  • F-Speed
  • F-Acceleration
  • F-Maneuverability
  • F-Trample
  • F-Armor
  • F-Capacity
  • B-Lame
  • P-Perks

Perks are added to the horse capabilities or the rider, and should not be anything overpowered.

Those characteristics can change in the course of the game, as you can train the horses, use horse armors, send them to professional trainers, use enchanted bridles, they can get lame and need to recover, and so on...

Just my two cents. :)

The devs are likely to realize these suggestions by themselves. I don't really see the point in threads like these, of course everyone wants a game full of varying content, in this case varying and awesome stuff with mounts, but their team's manpower is limited and to concentrate heavily into various details and functions regarding mounts means that it's off from some other (hopefully not more important) features of the game.

For instance, Dragon Age had a very poor choice of appearances regarding light armor, because the devs didn't have the resources to model more of them and instead concentrated on other stuff in the end.

It does not matter, and we know lots of these suggestions are useless and would not be implemented in the game, but I have seen otherwise as well, and I like to think that *maybe*, just maybe, some of my old suggestions, indirectly, have affected the game, as I see quite a few coincidences.

And it is a fact that a lot of the suggestions and complaints by the community has some effects on their decisions for the later games.

I would hope for limited forms of combat on horseback - perhaps the ability to shoot bows and make passing strikes? Not entirely sure what would be possible, but it always bothered me that once mounted I was blocked from doing many of the basic things. It was this reason more than any that I couldn't stay mounted more in Oblivion, and that limited their use.

In any respect I'm just gratified to know that horses will be in Skyrim - I missed them greatly in Fallout!
