Dovahkiin Runes

Post » Sat Oct 09, 2010 6:36 am

Here's a fun little thing I came up with after solving the GameInformer translation riddle: an online dovahkiin rune writer. You can input arbitrary text, and the web site will find the appropriate runes, as far as they are known. You can try it here:

http://apoapsis.net/runedict/runedict.html!

At the moment it does only phonetic transcription, no translation. Maybe I'll add a little translation function later - shouldn't be too hard if the language is just a 1:1 mapping to English...

By the way, is anything known about the in-game lore of the rune alphabet and the language? Who writes and speaks them?

- Jan. 11th: Added some eyecandy and went out of my way to make it good-looking even on that $#%ยง!& IE...

Dragons, apparently.

Which honestly only raises further questions.

The runes of the poem are draconic, as is the word "Dovahkiin"

awesome!
I believe this is the language written and spoken by the dragons themselves (though the dragons as they're presented hardly seem that intelligent)
It's not confirmed, but there has been talk about it being an actual language made for the game

 In the meantime you can try making the runes into a font :poke:

I am hoping for books and wall markings done in these runes thru-out the game as that would just be even more immersion .......loving it lol

So it's a draconic language, eh? Can't really reconcile that with the contents of the poem. I hope we'll see some more translation riddles before the game is out, it would be nice to get more context. And please make them harder! :)

Not by itself - there's only the http://apoapsis.net/runedict/glyphs/ey.png character.
