How would I be able to view not just the back of my character, but also front in 3rd person while in game?

The pc

Hold down R and rotate around with the mouse. You have to keep R held down though to keep it in that view. Can also press in the mouse scroller thingy if you have that. I only use it when I'm traveling though, kinda hard to function in combat with one finger held down on something the whole time.

No problem. You can zoom in and out in normal POV as well as the alternate one.
