Dungeon Sizes

Post » Sun Oct 10, 2010 12:42 pm

I was thinking about how big the dungeons are gonna be in Skyrim because, I was reading some lore on Skyrim( UESP) and it said that were many battles in Skyrim's history and that means ruins of sieged cities, and I also heard that some of the dungeons in Skyrim are gonna be ruined cities. So what do you guys think on this matter?

I'd like to see them not all be below ground.

Some nice big dungeons would be cool. As long as it doesn't get as crazy as the dungeons in daggerfall.

Some ruined town sites on the surface would be nice, especially near the remains of a few Oblivion gates, populated by bandit clans, or monsters, or maybe some scorched town village near the den of a few dragons.

I think Oblivion had way too many underground dungeons. It would be cool with some abandoned cities above ground, with some bandit gangs and such.

I don't care how big (well, I could certainly use a few big, well-made ones), but I hope the dungeons have far more variety and are not the "seen-one-seen-all" that was Oblivion.

Well the reason for them being built into the ground is simple. With the kind of materials and skills they have to build houses it is cheaper (to an extent), safer, and warmer to build downwards instead of up. That being said some ruined castles should exist where you go up instead of down.

I'd like to see Vertical dungeons as well. You know, like this http://static.gamer.no/g/441/441712/moria_fin.jpg

I'd love to see giant towers as well, I'm kinda sick to go underground every frigging time.

Yeah, I'd like big dungeons. I want variation more than anything, not like the few templates they had in Oblivion.

I'd actually say that's a good idea. It seems to be a common cliche in fantasy games that any dungeon needs to be underground, even if your dungeon is supposed to be some above-ground statue like a castle or tower. For once, it would be nice to see some dungeons located entirely above ground, and where going "deeper" into them means going up, just for variety.

I wouldn't mind some really large dungeons in the game too, not every dungeon needs to be a sprawling, underground labyrinth that you could take days to explore, of course, but some dizable dungeons would be nice, and most importantly, we need less generic dungeons, because after a while, one dungeon started to feel pretty similar to another in Oblivion. The Game Informer article seems to promise this, I hope that the game delivers what's promised too.

I′d love to have some really big mega-dungeons filled with puzzles, deadly traps and multiple levels with a "boss" at the end.

I would like a dungeon that would take me a week to complete (difficult puzzles, hard locks or a certain item required that would hinder me)

However i think there should be some smaller ones scattered around as well.

Warmer yes, but how is it cheaper or safer to build underground? For every room you want to add you have to dig out dozens of tons of earth and rock, and there's always a risk of cave in.
