[ IDEA ] If Dagoth had been successfull

***SPOILERS OF THE MAIN QUEST AHEAD******

As most epic stories, the main quest of Morrowind turned out for the better. But what had happened if the quest had failed and Dagoth Ur would have grown strong enough to launch an assault that would threaten Vvardenfell? What if he had been successful in that assault? I've envisioned walking though a ash covered and dead ascadian isles. The city of Balmora laid to ruin, desolate and empty save for horrors that lurk in the alleys between the houses. Walking though the cantons of Vivec and seeing the aftermath of the siege. Clutter over the floor though out the corridors, the swiftly built barricades, the broken doors though out the waist works. Small settlements still standing or rebuilt somewhere else. The corprus and ash monsters in hoards, always to many to handle.

As a survivor, the scavenging for food, equipment and even something as simple as a torch will keep you busy when you are not sneaking by or running from ash monsters. You need to get away from Vvardenfell but no boats or magical means is at your disposal. Maybe there are other people in hiding? Hidden or well fortified settlements which has not yet been broken. Maybe there is a possibility to meet other survivors which will either try to kill you for your meagre supplies, or side with you. Maybe you'll find people who can help you flee?

What about the Empire? When will they strike back to reconquer Vvardenfell? Or have they already made an attempt? What about the Akulakhan? Is it activated? What chaos would it have wrought on the face of Vvardenfell?

Anyone else ever envisioned a post apocalyptic Vvardenfell?

Fabulous idea but a really big modding project!!!

For a while I've been working on a post-Great House Dagoth mod which I affectionately call, "Get off my land, you Imperial scum!"
Admittedly the ending of the Great House Dagoth mod has a "kinder, gentler" outcome than one would expect when you side with Dagoth Ur so I haven't been working to make Vvardenfell as desolate as what you describe. It's mainly about removing all traces of the Imperial Cult, the Imperial Legion and any other Imperial organizations and freeing Morrowind (Now called New Resdayn) from the Empire. The Ordinators end up disappearing as well and the Temple buildings are used for other things.

I'm well aware that things would probably be far more severe in a universe where Dagoth Ur won, but again, the mod I'm working on is being based on the Great House Dagoth approach to Dagoth Ur winning the war against the Tribunal. And it's turning out to be a large job.

Sounds interesting.

I've been envisioning something along similar lines, but a bit different in scope... work is about as close to zero percent as you can get, but we'll see what happens :)

Had Dagoth Ur won, I would think he, the new owner of Wraithguard would use the heart's power to sever the Tribunal's bond from it.

Lore states that after the Oblivion crisis, the Ministry of Truth fell upon Vivec's palace, and at that exact time, Red Mountain erupted. I'd think when Dagoth Ur severs the bond from the heart, the Ministry of Truth would come crashing down upon Vivec's palace, although I don't think Red Mountain would erupt.

As for the world being desolate, I am not so sure. Dagoth Ur mainly wanted to drive away the Imperials. The only places I could imagine being desolate would be Imperial cities and forts. But I could imagine Dagoth Ur standing on the shoulder of the completed golem, Akulakhan, while it spreads blight and corprus.

Sounds epic to me.

"I will free the Dunmer from the Imperial yoke, and cast down the false gods of the Temple. I will lead them out of their ancient superstitions, and gift them with intimate knowledge of the divine. Then, perhaps, when Morrowind is once again restored to its ancient glories, it will be time to consider whether the Dunmer should cultivate ambitions of empire."

"The Sixth House will serve as the elite cadre of our movement. As cultists evolve through various stages of enlightenment, they will become, as suits their abilities, either holy warriors or priests. Their duty is to prepare themselves for service; their joy and liberation is to enter ever-more-deeply into the profound enlightenment of the divine dreamworld"
-- Dagoth Ur

I guess that he doesn't plan to turn everyone into twisted masses och flesh. ^^ But "gift them with intimate knowledge of the divine" might just as well be just that.
Even if there are issues with the lore correct-ness i'd still want to see an ash covered Vvardenfell with Dagoth Symbols and statues on top of the toppled statues of Vivec.

Think about the ruins of Ebonheart, years after Akulakhan had its way with it.

Well again, the ending of the Great House Dagoth mod takes care of that.
Spoiler
After separating the Tribunal from the Heart's power, Voryn has the player cast a spell that causes the Ministry of Truth to very neatly crash into Vivec's palace. No further damage or harm is done. :) Just the palace is damaged and Vivec is killed (assuming he was still alive when then happens.)

My game world is now better off than the lore-correct one. ;) LOL

By the love (and mead) of Shor, NO! I'm anti-Imperial to no end, too, but even I don't hate them that much to rather prefer a fanatical, crazy and also probably imperialist (too) God that spreads an incurable disease that turns you into a monster, and his minions.

You have to angrily shake your fist when you say that, from the safety of your screen door.

:grad: Am I the only one on theses forums, that think what the Imperials are doing for Tamriel is great? Sure we all have to make sacrifices, no more slaves and what not, but what about uniting all of Tamriel into one great force to be reckoned with.

And on that note, I have to agree with you, that a ruined Vvardenfell would be a sight to see...
