Official DLC's

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:20 pm

I can't help but wonder why the 7 DLC's that are supposedly included on the Knights of the Nine disc, do not seem to be included in the Game of the Year Edition of Oblivion. Any ideas why this is the case?

No idea, are you on PC, PS3 or 360? That may have something to do with it, not sure though.

From the pinned GotY FAQ -

6. Will it contain other Downloadable Content, such as Mehrune's Razor, Vile Lair, Thieves Den, and The Wizard's Tower?

No. On a recent episode of the http://www.oxmpodcast.com/, Bethesda Softworks Executive Producer Todd Howard had the following to say about the Oblivion Game of the Year Edition when asked why the rest of the released downloadable content will not be included:

"The two reasons are, these are the ones everybody wanted [Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles]. Secondly, these are the two that are designed to be in the game when you...if you were to start a new game, see what I mean? So if you were to have, if you download all the downloads we have and you start a new game, it starts throwing up all of these journals, it acts kinda weird....do you know what I mean? It's like you have this, you have this, you have this, you have this, so we have to go back and kind of massage them a little bit, to start differently. So we view Game of the Year as something [for] someone who's, for the most part, not bought Oblivion before, and now there's a better version of it they can buy. So they go out and buy it, and we want that first-time experience to be smooth."

He's rambling a bit, but you get the idea. :)

I just wish it included Mehrunes Razor and Spelltomes which were my favorite small DLC's.

I am playing the game on the PC only. Bought the game in a store, not online with Steam.
I'm hoping someone out there has an idea about this. Pretty much p...s me off, that I don't
have those DLC's, allthough it seems to me that I have already paid for them, when I bought
the GOTY Edition of the game.

Thanks for the tips though, guys...

The GOTY copy bought in stores only contains SI and KotN, Steam took it upon itself to include the other DLCs on top of the GOTY Edition.

GOTY is just Oblivion with SI and KotN.They don't tell you that the rest of the DLC's are included, it's not on the packaging or anything. So you didn't pay for them, you only guessed they were included, because they would have been if you would have bought KotN seperately.

They could've just set them to be deactivated at first, and include a new menu where they can be activated later. In my opinion, even the Knights of the Nine quest shouldn't be activated for first time play, because it renders the wayshrines unusable until you complete the pilgrimage. I can't imagine it would be that hard to make a new menu. Oh well. I wouldn't play it on console anyway.
