[WIPz/IDEA] Updated Physiqued Capes

Post » Thu Oct 14, 2010 7:58 am

I stumbled upon something interesting today in NifSkope, which maybe was a no-brainer, but I felt special regardless :P My biggest gripe with the Physiqued Capes mod by HopperFly621 is that the lighting on it is really odd, as in, it hits each plane individually, making the model look really angular. But by using the Smooth Normals option in NifSkope, I essentially fixed it (I think, I haven't actually tested it in-game). Here's a http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/8308/capebefore.jpg and http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/4240/capeafter.jpg to illustrate what I'm referring to. Now, my question to y'all is, should I just release the updated meshes and call it a day, or would you be interested in me making a version with revised textures, placement on NPCs, etc?

EDIT: Note- I'm not actually changing the geometry of the model at all, just the way it interacts with the environmental lighting.

You need to boost the threshold just a leeetle bit more to get rid of that last bit of faceting.

Were these meshes originally released in an incomplete state or something? Forgetting mesh smoothing is pretty... well... sloppy, for lack of a better term.

I'm not sure what the case was, but the mod has been out for over four years with no edits, and it's the guy's only mod, so there's a chance that he simply didn't know about it.

I did the same thing to these when I added a few of them to a couple
of new robe designs (so much faceting; rocks back and forth). At
any rate, for those that use the original mod proper, what you have
done will certainly be beneficial (indeed) :goodjob: .

Very cool, I personally would like to see some revised/updated textures so that they look less like curtains! but uhm..that may just be me. :P

Hey, just an update-- I'll be shipping this out for release here in the next couple of days. In addition to the mesh edits, I made all the capes either use vanilla textures or, in the case of the Imperial and Templar capes, reliant on their respective skirts from Better Clothes. There were a couple that have completely changed (Ebony cape now uses the texture tx_c_skirt_expensive_02, because it seems to be mostly Ordinators that use them in the provided plugin, and I wanted it to match their getup more), but for the most part, there was really no reason for them to use custom textures to begin with, because he literally just renamed the files or only changed some tiny thing. So, here's some screenies while I work up the motivation to do the icons and package it all up ;)

w00t! those look awesome. If they can interact with robes without too much overlap then I'll be a happy camper.

Wow, is it really that simple? Adding smoothing? Nice work.

Nice! I've been wondering if anyone would be updating the capes, since I enjoyed them. Any chance there's just a regular old brown cape among these? It's alright if not, I can just retexture it myself, but still. I'll be watching this thread for a REL. :D

I only updated the existing ones, but in theory I could easily make more. Any robe texture pretty much works with these, and I could resort to skirts as well for greater diversity. Of course, I would then have to make my own plugin...

Hey, just a bump/update (bumpdate?): I forgot to back these up before my computer died (fortunate, then, that these are so easy to do :P), but I'll recreate what I lost, add some new capes, and get this bundled up (wow, like I've never said that before :P) hopefully in the next week or so.

This.
The last ones I saw had a sort of scissor motion, but didn't look right. No offense to "that" mod, just saying.
