For what it is worth, they have not shut down, yet.

Some very interesting discussions appear to be taking place on the FileFront forums...

I wouldn't have thought they could be stupid like that though. You aren't going to trust a site that does that ever again.

I don't think that its an april fools day joke. If they are getting shutdown for legal reasons, then it could take a long while before they get shutdown.

Another possibility is that they are making a new site and uploading everything to that site. I have no idea if thats what their doing, but it is a possibility to consider.

You can't count it as an april fools joke if you announce it like a week before. As coolshady said, the amount of bandwidth used in the last few days probably wouldn't be worth a joke.

Anyway I agree with those who said good riddance.

That all depends on how it's done. Under DMCA regulations, they would have to immediately remove the content. I think (not up-to-date on my copyright laws here) the FBI or any other government agency could suspend their service (possibly Arrrr!-style steal their servers) during an investigation. That makes sense, because otherwise the illegal stuff will keep spreading.

Another possibility is that they are making a new site and uploading everything to that site. I have no idea if thats what their doing, but it is a possibility to consider.

If they had the plans to make a new site, they probably would have announced it. Even if not, they certainly would back everything up and try to switch as seamlessly as possible. Mirroring the server's data (just the files) would take a day, tops, and they would be able to shut down the current system while they launched the new one.

Whatever the reason, they're still around. Somebody kick them in the [censored] and tell them to get out already!

If this is true, it also means that the Jedi Knight mod community will be gone too!

What a rubbish April Fools joke.
I can't help but feel that if it is a joke, then they're the fools.

I think it wasn't a joke. Too unfunny to be a joke.

I do not think it was an April Fools joke, if you go to the site, they have a letter regarding what happened, apologising and specifically stating that April 1st was just a coincidence.

A fragment of this letter:
1) The March 24th announcement about FileFront shutting down was NOT an early April Fool's joke and Ziff Davis Media had every intention of shutting down FileFront by the end of March.

2) This announcement about the original founders buying back FileFront from Ziff Davis Media is also NOT an April Fool's joke.

3) We're making this announcement on April 1st because the deal was completed today and we want to bring all services back online immediately.

4) We would NEVER shut down FileFront as an April Fool's joke.

5) We are happy to be back!
So the problem is solved. :) (And today is April the 2nd)

I consider this an April Fools joke until the 2nd.

And you get the price. I would never have guessed this :celebration:

Agree, there a alot of outdated mods. I defently like fileplanet 10 times more. But it'll be a little more loose for ofther games like KOTOR 1 & 2 and all the GTA mods. I'm about too download all the mods for GTA 3, Vice City and maybe San Andreas. But first efter I have finished my Morrowind and KOTOR 1+2 mods download. Soo I think I'll find my GTA mods elsewhere. I know a frind that have alot :)

Here is a little list of mods I'll submit either too PES or TES.Nexus soon:
Unofficial Tribunal Ending Movie by W4rbird (his site has been down seens Oct 2007) http://i41.tinypic.com/nx28fa.jpg from FileFront.
Mournhold Zoo by an unknown author.

I'll withdrawal thise word for the time being and maybe delete what I have used my damn weekend too download :nuke:. 5+ Gigabyte is also some kind of space if it's not necessary. Very unprofessional if you ask me :flame:  But okay they are back : http://i41.tinypic.com/aorsia.jpg :deal: :bolt:

For some values of "problem" and "solved", sure <_< Note that they were originally called "FileLeech"... yeah :stare: I would actively discourage people in the TES community from using them when there are far more reliable (and respectable) sites available

Unless they change their takedown / permission policy, of course.
