Smith Casey Outcasts

Post » Sun Oct 17, 2010 10:02 am

To move the MQ along in my new game (I'm itching to get into Broken Steel and actually play through it) I went directly from Megaton to Vault 112. When I got there, a total of four Brotherhood Outcasts were standing around the military vehicles that are there. Previously I had discovered the location, destroyed the Sentry Bot of d00m, then went on my way before I decided to just skip that far ahead.

Anyways.

When I get there, the Outcast are just milling around, telling me to get lost. I complete Tranquility Lane and when I come back out, the military vehicles are on fire, and all the Outcast are dead!

The wiki doesn't have this listed as a random encounter.

What happened??

"Imagination Power" answers are also acceptable in light of no real canon response hehe.

My guess Is that they where shooting an enemy and some of there shots hit the car cousing It to blow and kill themselves, but other then that, Im sure thats the only stupid way that they died from.

It's only natural for them to tell you to go away, they never are nice (Too me anyway) Dont' worry though I'm sure you havnt missed out on anything It's just them killing themselves.

It was just weird to me that there were four of them (usually travel in groups of 2 with a robot, or a group of 3). One of them was standing in the road with a Ripper. He respawned from the last time because, well, last time, he got in the way of the business end a launched missile, and I took the Ripper.

There is a Outcast patrol that takes that road.....perhaps when you left Vault 112, the Sentry Bot re-spawned, got into a fight with the Outcasts, and the trucks blew up in the crossfire and killed them all.

I generally encounter a Mister Gutsy in that location and It tends to be either Slavers or devoid of random encounters, most of the time. Though one time I did get a squad of TC mercs, didn't end well .... for me.

either the wiki has given wrong info, or my game was on the fritz (and that was vanilla)

That area is a real mess of spawnpoints. There's a random encounter zone by the tent, the Outcasts patrol the road, there are robots by the trucks, nearby Raiders can be drawn over into the fighting, Albino Radscorpions and Yao Guai spawn behind the garage, molerats and other things beside it :ahhh:

Go there a few times and kill everything, then go somewhere else, wait three days and fast-travel back to the garage. That's a fun one especially if you have a companion you're trying to keep alive.

I know the bots respawn. When I came out the Outcasts were dead (again) and there was a Mister Gutsy with only a few bars of health left. I was just wondering if they staked the place out on purpose. Maybe they were looking for 112...

The Outcast patrol just goes back and forth on the road, they don't know anything about V112.

What I love about this story, is that the Mister Gutsy got the better of four Outcasts!

The exploded cars may have something to do with it...;) The last time I was by, the Sentry Bot had got the best of them, too!

If they keep respawning with that Ripper then I will swing by every once in a while.

Yes! And I thought about how the car may have helped the Mister Gusty, but apparently  he was smart enough to stay out of the way of the blast and they weren't!

Yep, when I see this fight kick off it's usually the Outcast Sentry Bot rockets that causes the vehicles/trucks to catch light and blow. I don't think I've seen the Outcasts calling for reinforcements to take on a single Mr Gutsy before! Usually just 2 of them and a sentry bot.

This is my third playthrough and the area was always previously entirely abandoned. But, this is also the first playthrough where I am being hard on myself about not fast travelling, so maybe that has made a difference...heheh.
