If Arena or Daggerfall were ported....

What console would you want Bethesda to put a port of Arena or Daggerfall on? Personally, I think a version compatible with Vista/XP would be best, but I also think that PSN and XBL would be good too.

It already runs under Vista/XP on a modern machine, with the appropriate helper program. Heck, it also runs on Mac, Linux, and anything else that's got a mouse, a keyboard, and DOSbox. :)

You're right. XP

However, I meant a version that didn't need DOSBox, or anything like that.

I say put port Arena to the PSP. As for Daggerfall, the DS would work, but since that's a cartridge system, I say leave it be.

Steam! That way you'd be able to play it on a computer. I have Daggerfall, but if they updated it, I'd be pissed if I couldn't play it because I wouldn't have the console.

It's possible to play Arena on the original Xbox. I could never get Daggerfall working, though.

Despite it's crude graphics, bugs, and the like I've been very charmed by Daggerfall once again. The atmosphere is fantastic. The mood is just right. And the tavern music is catchy as hell. For posterity's sake I was wondering what it would take to transfer the game into a more modern engine such as Source. The only reason I chose Source is do to its availability - everybody who owns Half Life 2 has it - and apparent ease of use. I'm not even talking about updating the graphics (I sort of like the 2-D bitmaps). What I'm talking about is linking the content that's already on the CD and making it workable in Source. That's it. Daggerfall: Source. No need for Dosbox or jumping through 20 hoops to get the game working. Just a straight port.

Have you tried it with a modern build of DOSBox? Last I remember it was .6x that you tried, the performance is quite a bit better now. Also, where'd those pictures drift off to eh? I remember them being around the DFWS and thats it.

There might be one newer build of DOSBox available for the Xbox, but nothing very recent (MAYBE .70). If .73 were ported I'm pretty sure Arena would run at full speed with no issues. Me and the Xbox-scene server don't get along, though, so it's hard for me to grab anything without resorting to other methods. My USB converter also broke, so I'd have to mod another Xbox I have lying around.

Unfortunately, it's a lot of hassle without much payoff. If I get bored I might give it another go sometime.

Those pictures are long gone, unfortunately. I have a bad habit of losing pictures, and it has come back to bite me more than once.
