Power Armour Weilders

If someone is wearing a suit of PA, is it even possible to kill them without pretty severely damaging/destroying the armour first?

Luck?

Possibly with a big enough concussive force.

You could also maybe roast them. I think you could possibly heat the suit up enough to cook the guy inside without damaging the electronics.

Or if you could get close enough to twist the guy's neck until it snaps. Unless the helmet has some sort of locking mechanism to prevent that.

I agree about the helmet thing. A raider killed Maxson because he had no helmet on and a poison arrow just grazed him.

Exactly. Because he was an idiot.

Still, I think players should be able to be idiots too. They should just get punished for being idiots by lacking the helmet DT, DR, and rad resist bonuses. :P

With concussive force you could maybe knock them out, killing them may be a stretch. Unless you beadt them into the floor. If you think about it, a gunshot is concussive force when you're wrapped in a giant tin-can which doesnt let the bullet through, it would have to be a pretty damn big concussive force. A tank maybe? PA is "capable of absorbing over 2500 Joules of kinetic impact" remember.

As far as heating them up goes, i could see that working. But "The 10-micron-thick silver ablative coating can reflect laser and other radiation emissions " so a working suit wouldnt be affected.

And neck snapping, well.... Youd have to be pretty damn strong. But possible, maybe.

So all of those options may well be possible, but without nigh on destroying the suit? Not so much

That would be the number one reason there should be no BoS walking around without a helmet in the wasteland. BoS elders would inforce that rule very strictly.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Maxson_II

One Brotherhood squad, lead by Maxson, found the Vipers. Expecting the raiders to break and run, Maxson didn't take into account the religious ferocity of the Vipers (or their poisoned weapons), and when a single arrow nicked him with his helmet off, he died within hours

Maxson started the BoS. Then his sons took over. Only one of them live and he's a kid in Fallout 3.

Hypothetically, let's say you manage to hit someone wearing the stuff in the helmet hard enough for their head to bang against the side and produce a contusion that immediately proceeds to an embolism and they fall over dead.

@ Muggles,
Is that a post with some semblance of discussion instead of your usual ambiguous one liners? Oh my, much appreciated.
Sure, with a lot of luck and a hell of a lot of force it might be possible. But it seems much more likely that the 'hell of a lot of force' would moreorless just destroy the helmet, and the persons head. (which of course is where the luck comes in)

 GET BACK ON TOPIC

:whisper:
So physicaly do it, get the thread back on topic by making an on topic post. As what you just posted, is still off topic! (and thus its slightly hypocritical for you to tell people to get on topic. and yes, i know this is still slightly off topic too, its just this sort of thing really grinds my gears :D

People die of what should be non-fatal blows to the head for all kinds of reasons, and sometimes while wearing helmets that should prevent it. No reason to destroy the helmet beyond function. I've never said that we should be getting the stuff at 100% quality. It's the easiest thing in the world for the guys wearing the armor to have full damage reduction and drop a lower-quality item on death.

For once, im actually not disagreeing with you. I dont have a problem with PA dropping under certain circumstance, but under standard circumstance the only way to kill an individual within PA is to get through the PA, and you can pretty much only get through PA by damaging it irrepairably. ~ unless you are extremely lucky.

Irreparable has no meaning in a game where you can loot bodies. That is not going away. You all need to accept this and shut the hell up about a fantasy of power armor being ruined beyond use because a hole has been punched in it that magically fried all of its circuits, destroyed all of its servo motors, made the fusion engine on the back explode and take out all intelligent life within a 2 mile radius, caused the physical structure of the armor to crumble into dust when you tried to take it off the body, and does not exist at all except being worn by invincible supermen who will utterly annihilate you if you even look at them funny.

Closed for review.

There are two topics on PA, as this one seems to be wandering all over the place please continue in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106436-power-armour-rules-and-restrictions/ - and stay on topic. You will be pleased to know I am off to bed now - but I'll be back tomorrow!
