Sound drivers for Daggerfall?

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 2:52 am

When installing Daggerfall I was having trouble with setting up the sound. Most of the drivers in the list didn't work and then I found one that did. It works great with the MIDI sounds but when there is a cutscene and there is speach going on the sound cuts out and it is almost impossible to understand what they say. Anyone here know where I can download a Sound driver that works well with Daggerfall?

You should just test out all the ones that work, or does only 1 work?

Soundblaster 16 and MPU-401 are the ones that should always work.

I picked Soundblaster and it worked but the dialogue was still incoherent.

The sound on XP stuttered and the midi was slow unless I used VDMSound. As StoneFrog says, SB16 (220,1,7) + MPU-401 (330) are my functioning settings. Should work with DosBox as well.

or if you are using Dosbox, maybe you set the cycles too high that your cpu couldn't handle and sound began stuttering.

Sound stuttering are often caused by incorrect IRQ settings.
