Can't play fullscreen and can't use MGE cause...

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:59 am

Hey everyone... So I have been wanting to play this game for a loooong time...

I reinstalled this game 23 times to try and get it to work (Yeah I AM NUTS!) and I have had very little success

Here is where I am right now....

1. installed game
2. Patched game with official patch off bethesda website (Morrowind patch or whatever)
3. Once patched the game runs in window mode ONLY... full screen shows no video... only audio...

and this is where I am stuck... I want to play the game full screen :(

also I have tried using MGE to enhance the game experience and when I try to open it up this is the error i get
"your version of Morrowind is not compatible with MGE. MGE requires a fully patched copy of Bloodmoon (i.e. Morrowind version 1.6.1820)"

But yet... I patched the game.... but IN GAME... the version of the game is "1.2.0.XXX" or whatever.... i Have try to patch it again... still says the same version... how the heck do i patch the game lol!!

please help... you are my only hope!

I am using windows 7 btw... and I definitely have a machine powerful enough to run the game.... I don't really know what else to include so please feel free to ask and I will do the best I can to help you help me!

Welcome to the forum - probably best you don't post multiple threads like this one here and one in the hardware section just use one and ask the mods to close the other

You'll need to provide some more info - what version of MW are you playing is it the game of the year - the collector's edition or did you get it off steam?

Are you using the MW launcher to start your game if so have you set the game to windowed mode in there instead of full screen?

Have you installed the game in Program Files (or Program Filkes (x86) if you have x64 version)? If so, UAC may be messing with the patching process. Simple fix is to install the game to some other location not under Program Files.

yes it is installed under program files in the "bethesda" folder.... Should i install it to desktop??? or can I simple just cut/paste the contents of the folder to my desktop and patch it there?

Thanks for the kind welcoming :) I asked the mods to close my other thread as this one has been getting more views and responses....

My morrowind installed right now is the regular morrowind... not sure what version.... but I also have a game of the year version aswell... but this one isnt installed...

I am using MW launcher.... I set it to window mode and it comes up windowed mode.... when i set it to full screen it goes full screen but no video.. only audio...

also with MGE in the folder the game wont open at all....... I get this error

"2
could not open the MGE Settings file
the System cannot find the file specified.
Try running mgegui.exe to re-create the save files. "

but if I remove MGE it opens up... only in the window mode only....

Any ideas?

If you want to run MGE you need to install your GOTY copy of the game. Install the game in this order - Morrowind, Tribunal, Bloodmoon. Do not ever install any patch at any point in the install process. If you have the GOTY version, your game will automatically be completely patched when you install Bloodmoon.

Step one-Install the game of the year edition(Install this version because it will be patched to 1.6.1820 already) to anywhere but program files first the Morrowind disk, then the Tribunal Disk, and then the Bloodmoon disk in that order, I would strongly recommend installing it to the base C: drive....for instance it should be installed to C:\Bethesda instead of C:\Program Files\Bethesda, this is to avoid UAC issues with windows.

Edit: Beaten to step one I see!

Step two-Open the Morrowind Launcer, click options, choose a resolution, exit.

Step three-Download and extract the June 2010 DX9 redistributible into a new folder, now open that folder and find the dxsetup.exe and run it.

Step four-Download and install MGE(I recommend using the SVN 178 version as it is pretty stable and offers a plethora of advancements over the 3.8 official release).

Step five-Open MGEgui.exe, click the "global graphics" tab and choose the native resolution of your monitor, if it is a widescreen monitor, I would also suggest changing the FOV under the "Render State" tab to 90.

Step six-Click on the "Tools" tab in the MGEgui, and then Distant Land File Creation Wizard, run the wizard with all of your available .ESM and .ESP files that pop up.(For more information on distant land creations, consult the MGE thread)

Ok, you can close MGEgui, and should be good to go with your game, if you have any hicups, try running the morrowind launcher, and the MGEgui as an administrator, you may also want to patch both programs as well as your morrowind.exe with the 4gb patch found on these forums.

Ok, right click your morrowind launcher, click properties, now click compatibility, click the "run this program in compatibility mode for:" box, and choose Windows XP, under the settings boxes, choose "Disable visual themes, disable desktop composition and disable display scaling on high dpi settings" and under the privilege level, click the box that says "run this program as an administrator, and hit ok.

Now, do the same thing with your MGEgui.exe. Now, open your morrowind launcher, and choose a resolution again, and then try opening your MGEgui.
