NO. [censored] OFF.

No. It doesn't. That [censored] is stupid.

Way way way out of line.

First off, what’s up with all the nerd rage? What’s ruining the internet, is people like you telling me to “f*** off” just because you disagree with me. Like you would ever actually say that to my face. Hypothetically speaking, if someone were to say that to my face, it would probably be bad new for their face. Why don’t you spend some time interacting with real people? Maybe than you won’t be so personally offended by someone’s suggestion about a VIDEO GAME FORUM. Don’t get your comic book t-shirt sweaty raging about it.

Second, no one (me) said anything about anything like a utube type rating system, just an easier way to agree with or support someone’s comment. Do you forget that a lot of people get on here to ask questions, and that being able to support someone’s advice may help to clarify which response they should listen to?

I'm requesting this thread be closed do to the fact that some you have yet to learn how to play nice with others.

Or what, you'll BAN ME?

OOOOOoooohhhh

The famous last words of electricRubber. :nope:

and to make this post immune to Rohugh's Delete Rage (rank 3 ability), here's something relevant to the topic:

I don't like 'Likes', at least not like they do it on Facebook and other similar sites. But I do like the system they have on http://stackoverflow.com/ where you have a discussion about something and users can vote for replies and in the end, the highest rated reply will be on top and if that reply did in fact solve whatever problems the OP was having, he can 'accept' it and that makes the thread resolved.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a like system, as long as you'd know who liked your post.

They were conveying the sheer amount to which they disagree with you. In a rather crude and brusque manner, yes, but you can't throw the toys out the pram when you come up against a bit of opposition.

Says the person with a Patrick Bateman avatar...creepy.

Up and down ratings on posts have worked before, actually. RoosterTeeth had it (don't know if they still do) but it doesn't really do anything. As far as I know. But ranking things leads to the development of 'power users' and SEOs gaming the system as well. Its a double edged sword.

I’m not apposed to opposition, I’m opposed to someone telling me to “f*** off” because they can hide behind a keyboard.

Opinions may be like a hole’s, but that don’t make an a hole an opinion.

This is the internet. The internet is not serious business. If you let little things like that wind you up, you've already lost half the battle, and resorting to flaming just brings you down to the same level.

Actually, I would tell you to [censored] off in real life if I were as against this as they apparently are.

I agree that they were a bit harsh but you didn't exactly take the high road in your reply  It's pointless to argue, they hate this idea, you probably can't change that (judging by the response you got from them) so it's best just to ignore them. :)

Probably, I disabled signatures on the forums because I was tired of seeing uncomfortably unfunny quotes and random links to weird website. Also I haven't bothered running the script that updates my sig with my twitter.

I agree 100%.

I respect and appreciate debate, but hopping on to insult me personally, on-line or no, is a weenie thing to do, and needs to be checked.

I don’t want this closed because some people disagree with me; I want it closed because it got out of line fast.

Total disagreement is OK. Total diss is not.

PS: Im not mad, Ive been LMAO this whole time. Its just the principle of the whole thing.

Thank you povuholo, a fantastic demonstration of why a vote up/down system would be a pretty good idea. If we had that, we could vote down that post ^ and all the other pointless spam posts we've made so when someone new would enter the thread, they wouldn't see "NO [censored] OFF" as the first reply, they'd see some of the more intelligent replies first. :)

Which is a good thing because seeing "NO [censored] OFF" as one of the first replies is a pretty good way to prevent any mature people from even thinking about reading through the thread or replying to it.

Fine. I hate your idea, I think it was ill thought out, ill concieved and should've been aborted before you made the post. If you still think you had a case for a healthy discussion, you should have provided us with examples of how this could be implemented, the benefits and examples of where it could go wrong. Not only did you not include any of this in your inital post, your initial post was devoid of specifics and left a lots of room for imagination. With the words 'like' you alluded to, I assume, Facebook's feature for liking groups, posts, status updates et al. What you fail to realise that it serves no purpose in discussions in a forum format where each post is sorted according to timestamp and not on ranked commentry. I, electricRubber, hereby diss you for failing to provide a topic well structured enough to warrant healthy discussion, for failing to provide a proper framwork for us from the start and for failing to keep your cool in the face of criticism from peers. I wish to revoke your posting license, your internet community card and you do not pass Go!.

17 people like Justin Bieber.

I like this. It brought the lulz.

In other news, is it ironic that the most hate CD has seen in a while is in a topic about liking things?

I still think a 'like' button would be a pretty cool feature, and would probably be a good thing in some ways, but there would obviously be abuse and drawbacks. If you didn't like it, you probably wouldn't be forced to use it (depending on how bethesda decides to implement, obviously :P ) And for those who liked it, they'd probably have a good time with it.

Something that can be used for both good and bad... and some people love it while others hate it... sound like anything else? Or maybe everything else?

Edit: fix emoticon

What happens if the like system rearranges post that should be in chronological order. Nothing would make sense then.

Ruining it? As if. That IS the internet. That's literally what it's made of, no phone or cable lines, just people linked together and screaming at each other.
