[REL] TGD02 Ald'ruhn Council Club

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 5:46 pm

Excerpt from The Traveller's Guide to Dining:

Ald'ruhn Council Club - (Rating: 1 Gold; Bottle Award)

The Ald'ruhn Council Club, owned and operated by Darvam Hlaren, is the local watering hole in Ald'ruhn. This tavern is completely unremarkable in its selection of food - comprising only a couple of snacks plus the ubiquitous ash yam pie - but is very remarkable in the variety of beers (7), meads (14), and spirits (19) offered - hence the bottle award. Enjoy a quiet drink with a friend downstairs, engrossing discussions with the owner, or perhaps some lively entertainment from a local bard.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8587 Version 1.1 (08/23/2010)

Features:
- The ability to buy a wide variety of drinks and a few snacks
- A regenerating free snacks bowl
- Extensive dialogue for Darvam Hlaren, which may vary based on race, gender, faction, elapsed time, weather, disposition, and current events
- The ability to get directions to numerous local persons, places, and services
- A few intriguing papers here and there for flavor, some of which may lead to topics for certain NPCs
- A beautiful book created by Stuporstar
- Rumors that change on a daily basis and have an element of randomness
- Works with LGNPC

Oddities:
- Some snacks are implemented as blue pots (since I have no modelling skill). The justification is that they're in convenient containers for carrying around. :)
- Some snacks are alchemy objects so that they can give effects when eaten. Unfortunately, this means that they make bubbling sounds. :P

WARNING:
- You have only one opportunity to respond to the reading question. There is no right or wrong answer. Role-play it.

Feedback Please! This is my 4th mod. Help me make my mods better. Tell me what works and what doesn't. Comments, advice, and constructive criticism are always welcome. Please send me a message if you find a problem.

Happy gaming!

Very nice idea, mods like these add more live to Morrowind.
I am downloading it now even though it will be some time before I'll get the change to try it out.

Just tried it out quickly and have to say you did a great job again. I like how much time you have put into the dialog.

Maybe you could do something more with the room downstairs though, like add some people behind the stairs. It feels kind of empty now without anyone there.

I'm just trying to make the taverns, pubs, and inns more interesting to visit. Those are the standard places in basically any RPG that players visit for information, food, drink, carousing, etc. They should be as interesting as possible.

Thank you! I spent an enormous amount of time writing Darvam's dialogue. Imagine doing that for lots of characters.

I'll think about adding a couple of people downstairs. (Making note for next version...)

Thanks Debi ! Great mod . It makes sense that the taverns and pubs should be a source of information and gossip and first port of call for the fledgling adventurer . Shame about all the tempting foods and drinks : I'd be inclined to give up adventuring and become a galloping gourmet !

Thanks, gals and guys! I'm glad you're enjoying my mods. They're a lot of work (even for being so small), but I have a lot of fun making them. As soon as I come up with a personality for an NPC, he/she takes over my mind and I can't rest until I get it all down on paper (well, WordPad anyway). I've also discovered I love playing around with typefaces (hence the menu obsession). I haven't yet decided what I'm going to do next, but I have several ideas percolating. Have fun!

I'd download this in a heartbeat if my MW laptop wasn't 4 hours away from me in Maine (The laptop is in Maine, not me.) Any chance on getting the foods added by this NoM compatible?

If enough people are interested in NoM compatibility, I'll look into it. It's been in the back of my mind for a while.

If its not too difficult , that would be funky Debi !
Also , I was just in Maar Gan and found a place dying for the Debi touch : Andus Tradehouse ! How about that as a suggestion ?

Hmm ... Andus Tradehouse. I was just thinking that another really boring pub/tavern/inn could use some spicing up and I was also thinking of moving on to another town (even though I'd love to finish fleshing out Ald'ruhn by doing the Ald Skar Inn, but that's going to be a really big project given the ideas I have). I'll think about that.

Here's what I'm interested in working on soon:

* Revisit TGD01 The Rat in the Pot
1- to redo some of the dialogue to be more in line with what I learned to do with the Council Club and also to make better references to TGD02
2- to implement some requests like summoning the waitress and adding NoM compatibility
3- to add a few beverages now that I have a resource from TGD02

* Revisit TGD02 Ald'ruhn Council Club
1- to add NoM compatibility
2- to implement some requests like a few more NPCs

* Start working on TGD03

NoM compatability sounds awesome, my girls are always hungry though anything not Nomable in their inventory tends to go to the great alchemy machine instead of their rumbling tummies :)

Great work here, improving taverns is very welcome, you have my thanks : )
I'm not at home, but tomorrow I will, for what I saw and read this makes the council club more lively and entertaining.
Yes, taverns should be the first stop for any adventurer when arriving at a town. They should contain advertisemants, notes, news and promises of work for the average mages, warriors, bards, alchemists... A few advertisemants leading to questgivers, that will be nice.

I just took a look at the wiki entry on Andus Tradehouse and didn't get very inspired (yet), though I do agree this place needs some work. You should be able to have lengthy conversations with Miles Gloriosus (The "The" himself). NPCs tell you that you should go talk to him, so he should have a lot of (pompous) dialogue. I think I'll save this one for later, though.

I've been thinking of switching over to the east side of the island (Telvanni territory), which I don't know much about and rarely visit. I think it would be fun to learn more about the Telvanni and whatever goes on in that region. I got good vibes from The Plot and Plaster in Tel Aruhn.

So what does "Plot and Plaster" mean? "Plot" as in plot of ground? grave plot? nefarious plot? "Plaster" as in wall? drunk? I think I could get creative here. :)

Knowing the Telvanni , it probably refers to something quite ghastly ! However , to think laterally for a moment : to establish a mushroom house its probably necessary to find the best " plot " of ground and once its grown ( " built " ??? ) it might look better if the interior were to be plastered so that it could be decorated ! So Plot and Plaster could mean its a workmers tavern . Hows that Debi ?

I like that.

And the second meaning could be plant yourself and get plastered.
And the third meaning could be 'scheme' and 'cover up'.

'Workmer' - what a great word!

:)

EDIT:

What's that? Oh? ... The Lizard's Head is speaking to me. My attention turns towards Vivec...

Great idea.

On a related note, my current character relies heavily on his "contacts" and people who supply him information and whereabouts of other people. Naturally, a tavern would be a great choice for this, because let's be honest, who knows more about us than the person who fills our glasses. Now, I don't know if this is implemented in this mod, but is it possible to extract some more shady information or under-the-table deals, secrets and such from Hleran? If yes, that would greatly enhance my immersion and role-play. My two cents.

Again, great idea and I will be downloading this, because mods that add to the atmosphere and open up more roleplaying opportunities are very welcome in my game. :)

There are some intimations of shady things and, depending on your character, some dealing in illicit drugs. I have plans to make Darvam a major player in the smuggler underground in a future mod when my modding skills improve.
