perfect character..

Post » Fri Oct 22, 2010 8:23 am

is it possible to play through the game & build up a perfect character? ino with the broken steel add on the level cap is raised to 30 & you can choose the almost perfect perk when you reach it, then collect the SPECIAL bobbleheads to get all stats to 10. but is it possible to achieve all skills at 100? i have all skills at 100 apart from unarmed & melee weapons which are both at 58 or something & im at level 30. i read somewhere that there are 25 skill books for each skill in the game. im still finding certain skill books which are of no use to my character now & i was just wondering that if i had distributed the skills points more evenly when levelling up each time & maybe allocated a point or two more to my intelligence at the start of the game would it be possible to create a perfect character? i havnt done the maths but im sure its achievable lol

Comprehensive Perk is needed as it gives you an extra skill point for reading a book example being guns and bullets is 2 points not 1 with Comprehensive

I don't think all 100 skills is possible.. I vaguely remember a dev. stating so on a topic a few months ago.. But I could be mistaken..

It should be possible to get 100 points in all the skills. It won't be easy but its certainly possible.
25 skill books per skill so thats 25 skill points (50 with comprehension).
Bobble heads give 10 points per skill
An INT of 7 gives 17 skill points per LV (20 with Educated perk at LV 4).

You can definitely get 100 in all skills with BS installed. 29 levels of skill points + skill books (with comprehension) + bobble heads = more than enough skill points to max them all.

It was very possible pre Broken Steel but it is even more so now. Here are a few things to consider:

The base amount for each skill is 2 + 2*Attribute
Every 2 points of luck adds 1 skill point to all skills
With Comprehension there are 50 points possible for each skill
There are 10 points given for finding Skill bobbleheads

When you have all stats at 10 then the skill base for each skill will be 27. With Books and Bobbleheads the highest you need to raise a skill is to 40. This means you need to raise 13 skills by 13 points right? NO! 10 skills need to be raised by 13 points each because the other 3 were tagged. So to get to "Perfect" you only need 130 skill points. An Intelligence of 1 limits you to 11 skillpiont at levelup.

This paragraph is a tad teoretical, I think. There are about 25 skill books for each skill but some of them aren't accessible to all characters. There's one with the 'hitman thingie' perk and one with the lawman perk, and then there's the My Megaton / TP Towers House theme books. On top of this, you probably don't want to hunt down every single book out there unless you're manic about a perfect char. I mean, I did put all the locations into a spreadsheet so I had a chance in hell of knowing which books I've run into, but most people probably won't be tracking their game on a labtop while playing. >_>

Anyways, you're quite right with the numbers. All SPECIAL stats at 10 means a base of 27. Bobbleheads take that to 37. Then expect to get 20 books per skill for +40 points and everything is at 77. Then there's a few random perk bonuses (cyborg gives +10 energy weapons, for instance), but even ignoring those, you're a mere 23 * 13 = 299 points from a perfect skill set. Then subtract 45 points for tagged skills and the number is 254 or ~= 8.76 skill point per each of your 29 levels.

If you go with max intelligence (9 base + early bobblehead) you'll get 20 skill points per level beginning at level 3. That means 19 points at level 2 and 20 thereafter, for a total of 28 * 20 + 19 = 579 points. That gives you an overhead of 280 points to spend as you want to, without concerns about efficiency. Want to get your main weapon skill, lockpick, repair, and maybe science or medicine as well to good levels without finding all the bobbleheads? Well, you can afford to do that without losing the option of a perfect skill set.

I suppose it's possible, but I don't really plan to bother. Maxing out one skill will often make another unnecessary.

Its easily achievable. I have maxed all my skills (PS3). All you need to do is buy Broken Steel.

It's easy to max out all of your skills at 100 by Level 30 if you take advantage of the right perks and distribute your points correctly. With an Intelligence of 7, Comprehension, Educated and Cyborg perks plus Yew's Bear Charm from Sapling Yew, I maxed a character at level 30 after reading 125 skill books and still had a few points left over.

You'll want to keep track of the number of skill books you've read for each skill and use your points at level up to raise skills wisely. You don't want to throw all of your points into Small Guns if there are still 18 Guns and Bullets books to find. I wrote down the location of each book I found too to help me keep track of them. It's tedious but it can be done.

You can max all your skills to 100 with the level 20 cap...the level 30 cap just makes it alot easier.

On my perfect character I got to all 100's by level 26. By reading 192 skill books, having educated, Comprehension, an INT of 7, and all skill bobbleheads aside from the energy weapons bobble.

The question is, why would you want to have the perfect character? I would consider it boring if I no longer had to develop any of my skills. I've drastically reduced the number of skill point I can get in a game just to avoid that.

Come level 30, there's no developing your skills anyway, save with whatever books you still haven't found. It does tend to make levelling a bit boring, I suppose, when you've got all the perks you want and don't need to worry about skills.

Nah, that's a character who preys on weakling raiders and weakling ghouls / super muties. :P

Anyways, why would the stimpack usage matter? It's not like there's any huge difference between drinking ten bottles of water and using a couple of stims, and you're not going to make me believe that you didn't need healing at all. Heavy armor may do a lot but tri-beamers at point blank and ghoul reavers with assorted backup still tend to hurt a fair bit, don't they?

And just for the record, my current lvl 21 char has the numbers 594, 374, 61 (with probably around half being crippled or hurt limbs), and 0 cheats. I suppose if I keep roaming the wastelands for another six months or so, I'll end up with numbers like yours. And I definitely need to get rid of Charon too, I suppose. Bastard is stealing my frags like mad, and he's about as subtle as an angry rhino. :swear:

I would say that a character that does not have all skills at 100 by level 20 is perfect, for the very purpose of role-playing is destroyed when your character becomes a jack of all trades.
A specialized character brings more joy.

sure I needed healing, cause sometimes I get shot in the leg/arm etc.
so for that I use army tents w/ beds as field hospitals. i sleep, I get healed.
for the record, I have yet to be killed on my second play-through.. V.hard, Lev 30.
I rarely go up close and personal... sniper rifle is my best friend.. when I do get up
close.. its in the DC area. my sneak is at 100 so i'm usually ok.. but on occasionally
when they spot me, i find cover and open fire on there asses. takoma park, and les

enfants square are the hardest to not get hurt.
