If I remember well something like this was done in the mod Lothavor's Legacy, in that case the modder had to script only six-seven NPCs though (the ones who where together with you in the island).

A mod adding realistic schedules for every NPC in the game would totally rule.

This would be an outstanding achievement. If a good modder template was included, I would love to try and incorporate it into a post-initial release of my Lyithdonea WIP. The livelier the better!
