Any experience with these BIG texture sets?

I've been getting CTDs regularly, especially when loading a saved game after an untimely death. I'm looking to change some things around, see what helps. I was using the Morrowind Visual Pack Combined version 3.0, which was great (except for the Bitter Coast, which Swampy Swamps does better).

Some people are heaping praise on Connary's work, but I've yet to find screen shots, as most links for his files are broken.

Andy says his work isn't as demanding on hardware.

And the Morrowind Texture Pack? I don't even know who made it. But it's 288Mb, so it must be good, right? J/K

I'm using Connary's textures, they look really nice, and are the best I've seen so far... but it's not a complete texture pack, so combining it with another one might be a good idea. A friend of mine use ATAP + Connary's... I just use the vanilla textures + Connary's... and Vurt's tree retextures.

Try searching for Connary's textures on this forum, I'm sure you will find some working screenshots. :)

Well, that has nothing to do with which textures you're using, if that's what you think. That is probably the most common crash that we all experience.
It is best to exit Morrowind after dying.

All of those textures mentioned are great. I use Connary as a base replacer, then add in some work by Vurt, Plangkye, Alaisiagae, Qarl, Mr. Swiveller, AnOldFriend, Darknut, etc, etc, to complete my preferences.

Nice screen shots. But where are the actual files? Every link I've found for his work has been broken, with only ONE exception: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2JRYL4BT.

Is that where you got yours from, or is there some place else to go?

And why is it so hard to find this one guy's work? It's like someone is going out of his way to make sure all links to it are broken.

My bad, Vibrant Morrowind updated to http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8380.

I'll put up a few screenshots that aren't shown in PES if you want.

Connary's are very similar to the default, while Vibrant makes things more colorful and vivid, but still keeping to the feel of different regions and climates. (I've yet to see Solstheim and Mournhold redone, though.)

Indeed, that is the case, and the person who has broken all the links is the author himself (duh!). Connary has removed all his previous packs from the major download sites in preparation for the release of his full compendium (expected release date: 'when it's finished').

I imagine the majority of posters are 'old hands', so to speak (meaning that they've been around for some time), who had downloaded the original packs when they were available. However, if you do a search of these forums for 'Connary', you will find, for example, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1082054-connarys-retextures-gonne thread, which might be of some help to you, in addition to the link you've already found.

How much of a performance hit compared to a texture pack like ATAP?
I got a pretty bad card right now (8600GT 256mb) because my old card blew up due to the SC2 menu overheat issue. <.<

I got them from Planet Elder Scrolls many months ago, when they were still up there. Connary removed them now while he's working on his full texture compendium, that will retexture everything and also improves on his old retextures. That turned out to be a bad decision because people still wanted his old work, but for now people can download it from MegaUpload. I don't think we'll be seeing Connary's old textures on Planet Elder Scrolls again.

Oromish: I haven't noticed a performance hit, even on my old computer with a 128 MB video card.

For Solstheim, there's nothing better than http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25770. Sadly, it's incompleted :(

I have found the "Connary's Textures Gone?" thread and read through it. Sounds like a nice guy.

I ended up installing the Connary pack I linked to over the Morrowind Visual Pack Combined. Connary's textures seem like a step between the originals and what's in the MVPC, in that the resolution seems somewhere in between. Connary's textures are a little easier on my old PC.

I really like the grass--he didn't use a ridiculously enlarged grass texture as so many others have done. The MVPC has some better rocks, but not all. Balmora looks nice, though the pavement blurs just a few feet away. I've not seen many creatures, as I've just started a new game and haven't strayed far from civilization.

Looking forward to seeing his completed work in the future.

Does anyone know what http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19604 is about? Like, who did it? I'd love to see some screens....

Anyone using http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=5307?

Now that I've played the game a while, I have to say Connary did an outstanding job with the texturing. His reworks of some of the monsters are simply amazing (Winged Twilight, Guar, Cliff Racer). All of his landscape work beats everything else, hands down. If one could combine his textures with a new renderer for the game, that would rule.
