Deadliest Warrior: Fallout

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:27 am

A while back there were a series of Oblivion tournaments, it started with the NPC tournament, then there was a PC tournament, and even a Modds Tournament. One of my characters fought in the PC tournament and made it to the finals. Here is the tournament in which my character fought in case that you wanna see it, her name's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1092482-second-deadliest-warrior-oblivion-tournament/ What I'm getting at is that i would love to see someone host a new tournament for our fallout 3 characters. For right now tell me your opinion on this idea and if there were to be a tournament what character would you choose to go fight? What should be the rules of the tournament? Give some ideas.

The problem is, if we have a character that just hoardes stuff all day, and has all stats maxed out, that character will win. At level 30 you can use the perk Almost Perfect to reset your SPECIALS to 9. Then pick up the Bobbleheads to make it 10.

As for equipment, you can easily collect strongest armor and weapons in-game. The rule-making process would be pretty long and hard. We would need each person to send pictures of their inventories to ensure they actually have those items, and send pictures of their stats screen to show those actually are their stats.

Having said that, if you find a way to make it work, Im all in for it, and will post my current character too.

Name: John

six: Male

Race: Caucasian

Level: 19

SPECIAL: S-6 P-10(+) E-7 C-7 I-7 A-9 L-7

Tag Skills: Small Guns, Science, Speech.

Casual-wear: Merc. Grunt Outfit, Sunglasses.

Casual-weapon: Col. Autumns Laser Pistol.

Combat-wear: Col. Autumns Overcoat, Sunglasses, Shady Hat.

Combat-weapons: Xuanlong Rifle / Lincoln's Repeater.

Sounds fun, and a good topic to read at the start of the day :)

May need some rules controling what the character can and can't be. Holy Assassin is right in that it may become dominated by the 'perfect characters' with all stats and specials maxed out equiped with alien blasters and winterised power armor etc.

One question, would VATS be disabled? if it wasn't it could be like a classic style western! 2 Lone Wanderers facing off accros the street.... ready to race to see who brings VATS up the quickest and get the headshots away (or maybe shoot the gun out of hand first......).

Different types of competition perhaps, depending on weopons, equipment, use of VATS and so on. Small guns vs fists, big guns vs melee, companion involvement etc.

companion involvement

That's another good point, along with VATS. I have Charon along with me most of the time, and let him do most of the fighting. How would that translate into a competition? No followers?

Thing about VATS is, it pauses the game for you, but it won't for the other. It would be very strange, and hard to fight if everytime someone pulls up VATS the screen freezes for everyone.

Current Character
Hoss, Level 29
S 7
P 6
E 7
C 4
I 6
A 8
L 5

Tag Skills: Heavy Guns, Explosives, Unarmed

Casual Dress: Leather Rebel, Poplar's Hood, Tortoiseshell Glasses
Combat Wear: Leather Armor, Sheriff's Hat

Usual Loadout:

2 Bottlecap Mines, 2 Frag Mines
3 Frag Nades, 2 Plasma Nades
Eugene
Spiked Knuckles
Callahan's Magnum or Wild Bill's
Perforator or Ol' Painless

I use VATS at about 15 feet with my revolver, otherwise, no VATS. (You can free-hand nades farther than VATS allows anyway, and do bounces round the corner, etc.) I'm maxed in my Tag skills. These days, I usually let Jericho hose down the place with a Heavy Incinerator, while dealing with immediate threats in our perimeter. I'm still entering without Jericho though.

The character's stats that i posted are the starting stats. I know that there are a lot of perks that make character's overpowered that's why i was thinking that the level cap for the characters fighting should all be 20. If the level's higher than that it will be lowered or the opposite, if you're level 3 then you will be able to compete. That's what they did in oblivion, and the game automatically increased the major skills of the character. So no extremely over powered characters. (level 21 - 30 perks were a gamebreaker, they made you a god!) I don't know how fallout 3 will work on increasing our characters tagged skills, since tagging them only gives a 15 point bonus at the beginning.. Since i'm not on pc i'm not gonna be able to check or try out those things. So yeah.. maybe this could work..

Fighting Solo
level cap 25
1 unique armor/clothing
1 or 2 unique head gear
unique weapons: limit of 1 big gun, 2 small guns, 2 energy weapons, 6 explosives, 2 melee, 2 unarmed

(limited ammo depending on weapon. ex. 50 rounds of 10mm
i'm not finished.. sorry hold on

We could list our perks.... My current character has no super powerful perks. I'd have to look it up later though.

I don't think I could compete, since my character is far too powerful and well-armed for it to be fair.

If you're not on PC, how do you intent to host the tournament? ;)

In the Oblivion tournament the fights were between NPCs with autocalculated stats. The competitors just picked their race, birthsign, class and equipment. They got free weapons and armor, but the rest they had to buy with a gold budget that was based on their skills. I also edited the armors of the competitors so they all gave the same protection. That way people who were using Leather Armor for looks were not penalized when fighting people who were wearing Glass Armor.

If this tournament were done in a similair way the contestants wouldn't be using VATS because they'd all be NPCs. That probably gives a huge edge to the characters using Big Guns. Give you character a Fatman and it's all over for the other dude. The contestants also wouldn't have any perks, although the host could add some of the perks with the GECK (but some perks are impossible to add to NPCs).

I've also done some testing on how autocalculation works and apparently autocalculated NPCs put all their skill points into tag skills. And once their tag skills are maxed out they stop improving their skills. A character with 5 Intelligence would max all his or her tag skills by level 15. So having high level NPCs would give a disadvantage to characters with high Intelligence. I propose that the NPCs are set to level 10. With average stats (everything 5) that would create a character with 75 in the tag skills.

So here are my suggested rules:

1. Contestants provide the SPECIAL stats, tag skills, and equipment for their characters. The host then creates the characters as level 10 autocalculated NPCs in the GECK. Their Hit Points however are set to what the player would have at level 11 (20 * Endurance + 200). If Medicine is a tag skill it gets added to Hit Points as well. For example if a character has 5 Endurance and 77 Medicine that would result in 377 Hit Points.

2. There would be 8 or 16 contestants. With 16 contestants the tournament would be divided into 4 rounds. The first round would feature 8 duels (so no companions) and the winners would advance to the second round and so on. Each duel takes place in a limited area (I think Tranquility Lane would be a good replacement for Oblivion's arena) and consists out of 3 fights. The winner is whoever is the first to win 2 fights.

3. Contestants get a limited budget for their equipment. The base budget is 250 caps. Characters then get an extra 50 caps for each point of Perception, Charisma, and Agility. With a 5 in all three stats your budget would be 1000 caps. If Barter, Science, Lockpicking, or Sneak are tagged they each increase the budget by a further 500 caps. This makes the minimum possible budget 400 caps and the maximum possible budget is 3250 caps.

4. Contestants use their budget to buy weapons and armor. Fatman and unique weapons are not allowed. You can find a list of armors http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_armor_and_clothing (note that helmets are listed seperately) and a list of weapons can be found http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_weapons. The armor and weapons are at 50% condition. If the player has Repair as a tag skill the condition is improved by half their Repair skill. For example with 80% Repair skill the equipment would be at 90% condition (50% + 40%). Ammo is free and unlimited. Contestants don't get any healing items or chems.

5. Tagged weapon skills improve combat performance so they provide no special benefits. But non-combat tag skills do provide additional benefits:
-Barter: increases budget by 500 caps (as mentioned above)
-Speech: if your Speech skill is higher than your opponent's Speech skill the first two fights you lose in each duel doen't count towards victory for your opponent.
-Medicine: gets added to your Hit Points. (as mentioned above)
-Repair: half of the skill is added to the condition of your equipment (as mentioned above)
-Science: increases budget by 500 caps (as mentioned above)
-Lockpicking: increases budget by 500 caps (as mentioned above)
-Sneak: increases budget by 500 caps (as mentioned above)

I never said that i could host the tournament  edit: i like your idea dragatus, but i think everyone should get at least 1 stimpak and those who have medicine tagged should get 2 or 3. The armor disadvantage is a difficult thing because not everyone uses the biggest baddest armor in the game. Some people just wear regular clothes. So maybe there could be one fight fought wearing their casual equipment and the other one with their combat equipment. Another thing, i wouldn't want that many restrictions in the game like not being able to use the fat man, you could just drop a single mini nuke in the middle of the "arena" or in a container. I do agree that the best place to fight in would be in tranquility lane, but is there enough cover for melee users? Also those who have sneaked tagged could get 1 free stealth boy! (would they even use it? and would it even affect the fight?) you look handsome today dragatus :P would you be interested to host the deadliest warrior tournament?

I'm not sure if the NPC AI uses aid items (Stimpaks, Stealthboys, chems, food) so that's why I designed the rules without hem.

As for armor you'll note that the best armor costs 1000 caps and that's without the helmet. For most characters that would be almost all their budget. But people who use weaker armors could get more powerful guns. As long as Bethesda properly balanced the acctual costs of the equipment this should be fine.

Sorry, I'd prefer not to host this one. I'm quite busy these days.
