Got Bottle Caps?

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 9:20 am

As you know, there are multiple quests in Fallout 3 but my wife decided to add a personal challenge to the game. WEALTH.
She has played thru the entire game once and came up with this idea when she started her second game.

I think it started when I told her I had over 80,000 bottle caps when I finished playing the game plus Point Lookout, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta.
With this in mind she has set out to beat me and I must admit she is doing so handly.
She has finished Broken Steel, Operation Anchorage and The Pitt but has yet to visit Point Lookout or Mothership Zeta. She hasn't even visited the Capital Building or Oasis.
Her current net wealth at the moment is 177,894 bottlecaps. Yes!!! That's One Hundred and Seventy Seven Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninty Four bottlecaps with much of the game still to go.

I'm mentioning all of this because some of you say you are looking for new challenges so the next time you start the game from the beginning you might want to add this challenge to your game.

Have any of you folks added your own personal quests to the game? Up to now, my only personal quest was to collect as many Enclave Officers Hats as I could and store them in the spare room
in my Megaton house. I have about 38 of them so far and I'm still hunting for more.

The most I've ever got is just over 10,000. I don't tend to save up caps, as I'm always spending them on ammunition I can't find in the wastes, and repairing my weapons when I get to Megaton

On my first character I now have up to about 15,000. Nothing compared to OP, I don't even see what the point of having that much money is, as there's not really much to spend on. After buying all possible supplies, Im probably down to 10,000.

On my latest character, my wealth doesn't go above 5,000.

As for collections; I have loads of things. On my first character (despite being a good guy) he collects Mutilated Limbs, all of them. They're strewn all over the Megaton house. I know, creepy, but thats how I roll. :P

On my second, It's a whole bunch of stuff, Im trying to get every clothing type, and every head-wear. For items, its Intact Garden Gnomes. I don't collect Bobbleheads though. On neither playthrough, don't know why though. I should do that, but I ruined the chance to get atleast one of them in every playthrough. The Vault 101 one, and the Simms house one.

...

:(

580 caps.

I just started out, so that's all right. I'll probably have to loot everything not bolted down and drag them to my house.

Level 24 and 30833 caps. I'm at Scientific Pursuits in the MQ and have visited Op: Anchorage but haven't touched the DLCs beyond that. Oh and I've got some 6000+ 5mm rounds, about 1000 railway spikes, 170 missiles, ~20 mininukes, 3000+ energy cells, several thousand flamer fuel, and something like 2500 EC packs that I'm not sure I can ever possibly get around to use. And I've got a fairly large pre-war book collection that I haven't cashed in, I haven't sold all locations to Reilly yet, and in general I'm having rather large issues of selling all the stuff I collect, since merchants annoyingly tend to run out of caps.

I feel confident that by the end of the game, I'll have beaten your 80k caps handily but your wife may pose a greater challenge.

It has to be said, however, that I am using a cross-repair mod which is making it somewhat easier for me to conserve carrying capacity to only largely repaired weapons. Junk metal in particular is a potential source of massive "abuse", considering that a 100 cap busted laser rifle + 3 pieces of junk metal equals 800 caps or more worth of well-mentained laser rifle. I'm not abusing it like that (preferring to use scap metal more strategically for backup repairs of my main weapons instead) but that's of curse rather easy for me to say.

I don't care much about caps.

Every character I play, though, collects something different. My most recent character is mostly neutral and occasionally evil, but she likes to collect teddy bears. :)

I'm not quite that extreme. My current record is 22,000 or so, plus huge quantities of useful stuff I could sell. However, I'm still stuck with the vanilla game.

Kinda sounds like fun...

How about a guy collecting all the Hunting Rifles possible or 10mm Hand Guns???

After spending 15,000 caps or so to decorate her vault, my current character has around 40,000 caps. She doesn't sell much so she has lockers and crates packed full of armor/weapons/food/junk. My best character had 300,000 caps with a few hundred thousand more in gear stashed at home and over a thousand stimpaks on him (however much they were worth). I kinda miss him. We spent a lot of quality time together.

it turns out that i dont collect money. cause electron charge packs eat my caps up like water. but i have 5 tons of explosives around my house, on my person, and the leftover shrapnel in thousands of my enemies.
