Favorite Quest + Weapon

Post » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:18 am

Hey I'm looking for a fun quest to do, and was wondering what you guys thought were good quests. Keep in mind I've done a lot of quests already, including the main quest line, knights of the nine, shivering isles, and all of the guild quests (thieves, fighters, mage, dark brotherhood).

Also, I was wondering what the best weapon in the game is at any level, in terms of damage (the value under the sword icon), right now I'm using the Knight's of the Nine sword and I know for a fact that the Honorblade of Chorrol has more potency but I do not have a high enough stealth level to steal it from the Countess of Chorrol xD.

Thanks in advance. :D

Are you on the PC? If you are, I would check out a lot of the quest mods found http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/cat.php?id=35, there's some really fantastic ones.

I like to use the Dragonsword of Lainlyn for my fighting melee, my enchanted Madness Bow (Brain Freeze) for my stealth ranged and regular combat, and Mehrune's Razor for my stealth kills.
As for quests, I killed Lucien Lachance and missed out on the Brotherhood as I am a private-contract assassin. But I like the quest where the orc sends you to that island and you have to battle through the dungeon to escape. I believe it starts in Bravil?

If you haven't done all of the shrines then do them, some people complain that they are boring but I find them really fun. Its also really fun to become a vampire and feast on famous people, such as counts. If you do this though you should probably have a separate save file thingy for it so you can play your character not as a vampire when you want to.

As for weapons I prefer
Claymore: Shadowrend
Longsword: Dusk/dawn fang, Dragonsword of Lainlyn, or Umbra (Umbra has most base damage but kinda crapy enchant)
Shortsword: Chillrend
Dagger: Mehrunes Razor
Warhammer: Amber Warhammer w/ custom enchant
Bow: Madness bow w/ custom enchant
Mace: KotN mace
Axe (1 handed): Madness axe w/ custom enchant
Axe (2 handed): Daedric battle axe w/ custom enchant

Umbra is the best in terms of Base damage, but its enchant leaves A LOT to be desired. If you could care less about that, definitely go for it.
The best quest in the game is definitely Whodunnit. I have done the DB over like 4 times, and I never tire of that quest. Also have never beaten it twice the same way.

Do the Deadric Quests, Order of Virtuous Blood, The Killing Field, and the Imperial City Arena if you haven't done so yet.

Caught In The Hunt is fun too, but it's got a lot of bugs with it, so save before doing the quest and read up on it on www.uesp.net

Misc. Quests, Settlement Quests, and Non-Journal Entry Quests.

Also, for personal preference I made it a point to collect all unique weapons, armor, and jewelry I can in the game. That is, things that there are only one of in the game.

I also killed all the unique enemies as well, and bought all the houses I could and fully furnished them etc.

About the only three quests I haven't done are the SI quest in which you need to collect calipers and tongs, Two Sides of the Coin, and the Nirnroot quest. I don't include getting kicked out of guilds and getting back in to be quests even though they're logged as such, do you get what I'm saying?

If you've maxed your characters stats out, try changing up equipment and skills, and maxing out those skills. You'll notice a dramatic change in gameplay.

EDIT:

Oh, and my favorite weapon is Dustfang/Dawnfang. From vanilla oblivion? Either Umbra, or the Mage's Staff of Paralysis that you get from the Mage's Guild.

Have you been to Pale Pass?
Have you done the Collector Quest?

These are in my top five; quests for sheer enjoyability and toughness (75% Difficulty, level 30 and higher)

Have you helped the Ghosts of Vitharn? Took me a while figuring this one out.

EDIT: forgot the weapon thang. Depends on my character. In the end, a Perfect Madness Bow that I self-enchant, or a Perfect Madness Claymore that I self-enchant, or a Daedric Shortsword that I... you guessed it, self-enchant.

Quests: I think the Umbaccano quests are pretty fun and kind of involved, so they last for quite awhile. Done without hints/tips, it can cause you to uncover a lot of map and clear a lot of Ayleid ruins.

Weapons: For pure damage on a base weapon?
Well let's see. Daedric bow damage = 21; Deadric arrow damage = 15. 21 + 15 = 36. 36 is pretty good damage for a single unenchanted strike. (Level 20 required)
A bound claymore delivers 29. Also not bad for an unenchanted weapon. (No level requirement)
These damage figures of course are just for comparison. They assume 100% durability (more damage is possible at 125%), 100 in strength (or agility for bows) and 100 in your weapon's skill.

I don't believe there really is a 'best' weapon. It depends so much on what you are looking for and how your character is built and plays. I definitely prefer self-enchanted to any pre-enchanted weapon in the game however.
