Dragonborn and the Dragonfires

Post » Thu Oct 28, 2010 6:34 pm

I got the GameInformer issue and have been excitingly reading it...but I read one verse that gives a hint that the dragonborn are able to light the dragonfires...do you think that we'll restore order to Tamriel and become emperor or king in Skyrim? I stated earlier on a post similar to this that since the king was killed you maybe assume his position after the main plot is done.

Well there is currently already an Emperor, but merely out of necessity more than anything else. One also has to consider Martin needed the Amulet of Kings to light the dragonfires, and that was destroyed. It's a possibility dragonborn could become Emperor and restore peace to Tamriel, but who really knows.

Care to share what that is? Not everyone memorizes these things.

As Todd Howard said himself in the mag "They are anointed by the gods. That's why they can light the dragon fires and become an emperor. They kind of make the world whole"

The player character won't become the king. Because in the next game and your not the same person how would they show everyone your character, or what if someone didn't want to be the king? So i don't think there is any way that you become the king.

I dont think so the empire will probably name a king that is what I think anyway, you just might be there to see the crowning of the empires new ruler as we watch a new age dawn.

only if one of the aedra can give a artifact containing his/her power, to the dragonborn (since the amulet of kings is destroyed). then the dragonborn can use it to light the dragonfires...

edit: the new dragonborn is anointed by the gods, so he/she can light the dragonfires without a aedras artifact

But see they made the CoC go crazy in Shivering Isles, and well reincarnate Nerevarine is sitting on Akavir. What would they do with you if you were the king? The player character is always some nobody with no name only a little, that never gets seen again. Look up the lore on all the characters you have been. Never a name or anything. So if you become the king they really can't do that will you and a name would have to be in the record books.

actually...maybe the dragonborn is different and he/she resolves the conflict of Tamriel and institutes a new form of leadership...then the line of dragonborns as emperor could be no more...making it so its a new era

It would only make senser if our character were to help the crowning of a new eemperor light the dragonfires with the help of the Aedras help of course. I just wonder how this will happen because like you said nothing is ever heard of from the charaters we play ever again. I am curious how this will all unfold and play out.

The dragonfires were part of the covenent, along with the Amulet of Kings, between Akatosh and the previous Dragonborn to help keep up the barriers between Oblivion and Mundus/Nirn. When Martin broke the amulet and became the avatar of Akatosh, he simultaneously broke that covenent and permanently sealed the barriers to Oblivion.

Being able to light the dragonfires now would mean nothing, unless a new pact was made that involved lighting the dragonfires.

There is no reason why another Amulet of Kings cant be made, or a new covenent renewed. I cant help but think of the Sword from LoTR that made reforged and given to Aragon. Similar thing?

The fact that the GI states that a Dragonborn can become emporer, and that you are a Dragonborn, seems to indicate that you will become emporer. I sure hope so.

I was a little dissapointed that of all the people that had helped with the Oblviion crises, who were the only one alive who had done so much, and in return you got little. Not even title of Emporer, that went to a pencil pusher who barely helped.

But does it matter at this point? The Dragons wont be hindered by the Dragonfires...and if Akatosh being the baddy this time is accurate, we aren't getting another Pact. Jig is up folks, there is potential we are getting pwned this Era

Right, but there's no indiciation of that, yet. The answer to the question (of since the dragonborn can light the dragonfires, won't lighting the dragonfires make you emperor?), as far as we know right now is, no, lighting the dragonfires won't have an effect toward making you emperor. They did before because it upheld a covenent that doesn't exist anymore. That won't change unless we get more info about it.

Plus, I think the Amulet of Kings itself was needed to light the dragonfires. Since the AoK was destroyed, you can't light them even if you wanted to.
