FO3 crashing at self-made mods

Post » Thu Oct 28, 2010 4:46 pm

So, I have modded alot weapons, and now, suddenly when I mod any weapon and try to use it in FO3, the game crashes and crashes the whole save until i remove the mod. What's the problem here?

Update:

I made a gun mod yesterday = I modded damage and texture of Lincolns Repeater. As soon as I fired the gun the game crashed. Well now today, the game did not crash! I had changed nothing.

Today I made a huge Super-Duper Market mod (wich I am going to upload on FO3Nexus) and NO WAY; it crashed still. I deleted alot stuff from the market yard, but I have done that before without crashing, so that cant be a reason.

Also my few other gun mods have crashed like this.

It's not just the game crashing, the whole save crashes with the mod on, every time I try to save or autosave, its an insta-crash.

Now does anybody know what's wrong with my game?

Edit: I still mention that I have sended this .esp file to all my friends, and with them it works damn fine. So it's not in the file, what is my game actually doing?

Edit 2: I changed the Super-Duper mod to an esm file and now it works BUT... all the stuff I deleted (all the carts, hanging raiders, the clean asphalt and other carbage and stuff i moved or deleted) is there still.

Yes it can. Just because you got lucky before doesn't mean that deleting game references aren't causing you problems. You really, really shouldn't be doing that sort of thing, it can cause all sorts of instability in the game, especially if you have another mod that makes a change to the reference you deleted. If you don't want some of the vanilla assets to show up, don't just delete them, bury them instead. Put it below ground level where it can't be seen or accessed. You'll end up with a lot less problems doing it that way. No default game assets should ever be removed, you're just inviting issues in your game.

You should also be posting this in the mod forum, this one is for technical issues of the default game. Ask one of the moderators to move it for you, you'll probably end up with more help that way.

Hmmh, still a quick question. Will it crash if I don't delete the stuff and instead deleting I just move everything in a same pile and move that pile away from the Mart yard? Nothings actually deleted that way.

Oh, and moderators, please move this where it belongs, thanks :)

I don't really want to say that it won't crash because deleting those references may not be the real problem you're having. You just avoid any possibilities for problems by not deleting anything. And it doesn't matter what you do with them, as long as they still exist in the game in some form. Burying them is probably the easiest way though. If you open up the edit menu and go to 3D Data, the Z values on the left hand side determine the up/down location for the object. Just add in a high negative value and you're done. Or you could use the little arrows and do it manually. Deleting a game reference doesn't necessarily guarantee a crash, but it can lead to a complication that will cause one. So you're always best off avoiding the possibility to begin with.
