I was playing Oblivion fine with Windows 7 since my computer was bought last year. I was sent some updates last week for....emachines E182H (display)....NVIDIA GeForce 7050/NVIDIA nForce 620i....and one for windows 7 x64 based systems. Now my Oblivion is skippy or choppy, the mouse jumps around, trying to fight is a disaster, and the screen got bright enough to blind me. My internet is so fast now that I get where I'm going before I click it. Actually judging from the size of an update they sent today it is 75% faster. So I don't want to change stuff or go back to where it was if I don't have to, I might mess something up. And for all I know I might need these updates for playing Skyrim. So I don't know what to do. My brother says his was this way and after he kept playing it that way it gradually got faster and back to normal. I tried turning down all the settings in the game and that didn't help. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Post a dxdiag of your system please. Let's have a look.

Click on your start button, in the search box, type in dxdiag, and hit enter, i dialog box will come up, asking about whql certification, tell it "no", we don't really care...... an app will come up, with a progress bar in the lower left corner. Once it is finished, click on Save All Information. Just accept the defaults, and it will put dxdiag.txt on your desktop. Double click on the file to open it, then copy/paste the whole thing into a post. You can then delete the file off of your desktop.

Ouch. Not really a gaming machine..... Celeron single core processor, that was gimped from the factory.... (only 512K of L2 cache....) Integrated graphics, and integrated sound, no dual channel memory, due to the modules that are installed.... and a demanding Operating system...... That machine won't play Skyrim........ inadequate to the task. I am actually surprised it will run Oblivion.....

The screen brightness you can probably fix by typing TLB (I think..) in the in-game console, but, that is going to decrease performance...... You might be able to pick up a bit of performance with a http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796, I would also recommend turning off music in the oblivion.ini in My Games\Oblivion. Find the setting:

bmusicenabled=1

change the one to a zero.
