Will they have advanced in weapon technology?

The Dwemer invented explosive satchels. They're well over 400 years gone now. You're not going to see new technology in a magical world during the middle of world war 4.

No..no!! No!!! Hell no!!!

I compare the fall of Tamriel to the fall of the Roman Empire. From 476 to around 700, was the dark ages, where knowledge and just about everything regressed. It would take mankind a very long time to recover.

In the VERY MUCH DISPUTED time mankind had been here, we have had gun powder only since about 700 AD in China, but even then, it was just for fire works. Gun designs came about in the 1300s.

I'm not necessarily advocating the inclusion of guns in Skyrim or the Elder Scroll in general, but may I ask why those of you defending this position are so adamant against the inclusion of guns? It seems most fantasy buffs hate the idea of including these weapons in any sort of game that isn't an FPS; even those on the Fable forums opposed the introduction of guns into Albion, though that talk died down shortly after they saw that they weren't going to be ridiculously overpowered like they worried (which made no sense anyways).

I'm not half as well versed in the lore as I'm sure many of you are, but with a world full of scholars and warriors, and where an extinct race was able to build advanced technologies, why is the invention of guns so difficult to imagine? I understand the desire to keep games like fallout/or FPS's as far from the Elder Scrolls as possible, but guns in a fantasy setting are far from new concepts. In addition it seems the arguments that say guns wouldn't serve a purpose in a world of magic sense they obviously are inferior fail to make the same connection to bows and arrows (or any other projectile).

It would seem to me that in a world of superior magic, many other weapons would serve as impractical against fireballs and shields, yet we continue to see swordsmen killing wizards everywhere we go. So I was hoping some people can maybe tell me why they believe the way they do about the subject, pro or con, without resorting to the typical "keep guns out of my fantasy!".

I've come across a few interesting articles/ forum discussions that deal with this topic and here are some for the consideration of the discussion (I know they don't mention this game specifically, but the idea of guns in a fantasy setting seems to be the concern here, not whether they could implement them properly in game):

What if its a pre-gunpowder era, with extra emphasis on polearms and crossbows, maybe decorative venetian style armor

I doubt the look of the armor will change, and if it does I doubt there will be a lot of Decorative Venetian style armor.

I also doubt we will see any major technological advancements of any kind. The world of The Elder's Scrolls is, as others have put, it a very Tolkien like world. But more, since the Empire is in shambles, so I doubt anyone is to weapons research.

Gun's would take the fun out of the Elder Scrolls Games. And besides I doubt Bethesda would add guns to a medieval game. Cannons maybe.

In Morrowind I remember being killed by Dwemer Constructs firing enchanted darts from one of thier arms. This was not using guns, but one shot-one kill weapons already exist in ES lore. The Dwemer constructs cleaned the Fabricants clocks and if you were unlucky enough to wander too far into the hole under Amelexias statue in Mournhold you probably died too. I remember getting my health halved being hit by the unenchanted darts.EDIT I can see towns and wealthier villages investing money and effort to fix the walking Dwemer ballistas to defend themselves from dragons.

Think about it people, who would bother inventing a gun when you have battle mages? TES world is unlikely to make that kind of advances simply by the virtue of having magic - we did it because we needed artillery, and means of taking out adversary at a distance, in TES world it's accomplished with magic - they have everything form "fire throwers" to poison gas as it is, why waist time inventing a bullet that some mage will be able to stop with a modified telekinesis spell in two days flat?

Look at the ninja of Japan, they were all farmers who developed their unconventional style of warfare to combat the samurai. In Japan only the samurai were allowed to carry weapons on pain of death. :ninja: :toughninja: :ninja:

However, I personally would not like to see fire arms in the elder scrolls.

... and they say the internetz are a good learning tool...

... anyway...

One, I don't get why people want video games to work like real life has worked so far. What makes TES TES is that it happens in a medieval setting with swords and magic and deamons and races of man-lizards and man-felines... it is a fantasy world.

Two...
In 490 BC, the Athenian Greeks fought the Persians in one of the most famous battles in history, the Battle of Marathon. They used swords, shields, bows and arrows, spears, etc., wearing armors made of metal and leather, riding horses, elephants, etc...
1,677 years later, In 1187 AD, Crusaders battled Salah ad-Din's forces during the siege (an eventual surrender of ) Jerusalem using, you guessed it, swords, shields, bows and arrows, spears, etc, wearing armors made of steal and leather, riding horses, camels, etc...

.. so, no, let'em keep TES, TES. Thank you.
