Has Anyone Seen This Issue?

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:00 pm

Today I installed a bunch of cosmetic mods - little things like better potions, bottles, some clutter pricing mods - nothing spectacular. I went and did a cave and came back to my house. I knocked a plate over and when I went to pick it up my havoc was messed up.

You know how you can stand kind of far away from a table and pick something up and move it around from far away right? Or, if you stand from far and pick something up, your item will be far from you - where you picked it up from so that you can move it around at a distance.

Well...I picked up that plate and it zoomed up to my hand - really close to me. Very bad because it's not the way havoc works. I picked a book up off the floor and it zoomed right up to me, rather than hovering off the floor waiting for me to move it. This makes it impossible to place quite a few things.

I reverted back to a save before I started doing all that junk (the mods I loaded) and it was ok again but it came back after some play. Has anyone seen this problem and may know what it is?

Not what you are describing exactly. Telekinesis can bring distant objects closer or move them away, but I've never seen it happen with the grab key.

I don't think I've ever seen this issue mentioned. Shouldn't be caused by texture replacers at any rate. Post your mod list.

Hmm...I think that's similar to how it's happening. I've only used telekinesis a couple of times with my first character, but that's the type of thing that seems to be happening, except with the grab key.

Edit: yeah i'll come back with my mod list in a bit.

I have that problem, i just assumed it was the object i picked up and ignored it (i dont grab stuff very often) along with that problem also for some reason my movement in certain areas is very choppy (like if im lagging) ex:walk-freeze-walk-freeze. when i load a previous save from awhile ago it goes fine for about an hour or two then starts again, kinda like the grabbing thing. so....ya...no clue why though, if you find out id love to know :D. (also i have never used telekinesis on this character, so its not related to that :P)

I don't suppose either of you have a joystick or controller plugged in to your computer, do you?

Are you sure it happens with random objects in random places? Or does it happen in specific locations or with specific items? Next time it happens type 'tcg' in the console and look whether there is collision in the way. Some collision types don't affect your character but affect items when you move them with the grab key (and only then - if you kick them around or throw them it's no problem). Like trigger zones for example, probably any collision that isn't solid (like on plants etc).

OK I'm going to post my mod list but before I do that I'll answer some questions:

*Joshua yeah this is not normal behavior. Maybe you can compare your mod list with mine? I'd be interested in seeing your answers to this to - does it happen everywhere or in just random places. ... The choppiness is a separate issue.
* No joystick (wireless mouse though!)
* It's not random objects - it was anything I picked up (although I didn't try everything in the house). It was a tan cup, tan plate, a book. It happened in my modded house (A Little Retreat). But when I went back to an earlier save no problem (before I did all those cosmetic loads). The ONLY mod that I loaded yesterday that wasn't cosmetic was the Intoxicants mod which includes Inebriation - that mod allows you to make your own ales at vineyards and presses around Tamriel. It also does something to you drunk-wise i.e. if you drink too much ale you pass out or something like that (so it says). It was packaged in the Intoxicants mod (which re-does all the beer/ale/brandy labels to make them look better). However, I will try going outside my home and go elsewhere and pick up stuff and I'll post back.

Question: How can I tell there is collision in the way or not of these plates, etc. when I type tcg?

Here's my current mod list (pretty short and not too problematic I think so far). I would really like to try to resolve this - it's a new character for me - I'd like to play her a long time and I love decorating. I don't want to have a compounded issue later if I can't resolve this.

'TCG' means Toggle Collision Geometry. It shows the outlines of the collision. You will see if there is something in the spot where you want to place the objects. You can turn it off by typing tcg again.

OK. I tried deactivating any mod which I thought could possibly cause a problem - no luck. I'm in the market district and pull a pair of shoes out of a crate. When I throw the shoes on the ground and grab them from my furthest reach, they still quickly zoom up to me.

Then I turned tcg on just to check - nothing could possibly be in the way along the walkway there. Nothing was. I threw the shoes around a bit with my grab key (with tcg on) and somehow that seemed to release the "telekinesis" type of grab. I can now pick them up from afar and set them on a crate.

I'm not sure this is going to resolve my problem (who wants to throw their stuff around in their house before trying to set it up properly?). I'll test it some more and post back but if there are any more ideas I'd be happy to hear+try.

Edit: BAH - this hasn't resolved my problem. I took an apple out of my inventory in the market district - same problem. I can't get the "fix" I had with the shoes.

Edit #2: Hmm It's possible it could be Weynon Retreat. Off - things seem to be ok so far. On - borked. I'm going to test some more before reporting to the author because I'm not certain at all.

It's not Weynon Retreat. I've had that mod in my game for over a year now. Never play without it as Savior is my favorite horse. Weynon Retreat doesn't add anything that could possibly do what you're describing. More likely you have a screwy load order and something is not playing nicely.
