Using Obse Blows Up The Game

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:27 pm

I got OBSE again after reinstalling Oblivion which caused a lot of problems. I started Oblivion up with OBSE, and I get to the main menu and there are no buttons. It doesn't even show Oblivion at the top of the menu. Starting Oblivion without OBSE works just fine, but there are a few OBSE required mods I want to try out without OBSE somehow removing everything. I did manage to start the game anyway, but the menu locked up for a second to load the game (Yes, OBSE removed the loading screens too) and then I got into what looked like Cyrodil with 90% of it missing...almost everything was gone, what remained stuttering or transparent in the distance. Everything near was practically rendered, and my character was only teeth and eyes.

I reinstalled OBSE using a different version of it even, and starting with mods disabled and this still happens. What is the cause of this? I installed the mod "Devil May Cry Stylish Action Smokin Sick Style" before starting up the game with OBSE when this happened.

I think I did start up Oblivion with OBSE no problems the first time, but starting it up again after downloading a Hunger mod everything bad started to happen.

What version of Oblivion and OBSE are you using?

Steam, D2D, GOTY, original disc? Updated to latest patch? Localized (foreign language version)?

Any other performance patches/no-cd patches/anything else installed?

What does the Obse.log and obse_loader.log report?

@Orc with a torch - this is strange, but I've had similar issues before. It almost sounds like you need to run an archive invalidation or redirection. I would backup your Oblivion .ini and delete it. Let oblivion create a new one by starting up the game. See how either of those help.

The latest patch of Oblivion, and the 1.8 beta for Obse. I'm using the original disc, version is all fine.

I have Oblivion Graphics Enhanced installed, but no no-cd patches or anything. I did just recently download the Oblivion Stutter Remover by the way, which has been there through both reinstalls of obse

Deleting the oblivion ini. didn't help!

How do I run an archive invalidation or redirection?

Seems more like your BSA's aren't being read. Less like an OBSE problem. Try downloading this http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10724

IDK but for some reason I could never get Archive Invalidation Invalidated to work for me.

Orc with a torch, if the link kostresa posted doesn't end up working for you, you should use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 built in archive invalidation tool.
I could post a screen or two that would help...

You'd want to check the boxes I have checked and run the BSA alteration function.
Let us know if this fixes things for you.

If you are using OBGEv2 then try disabling your anti-aliasing. It's not compatible with the readable depth buffer that OBGEv2 uses.

Also might be worth having someone change the title on this thread as it's hugely misleading since OBSE does not in fact blow up the game.
