I'm a console gamer about to make the switch to PC

Post » Wed Nov 03, 2010 10:04 pm

How hard would it be to give harpers shack lighting, remove the shovel and broomes, make it less of a shack and more of a home (i.e. add a fridge, radio, close the gaps in the wall).
Maybe take the dust out of the place
Make the camp fire out side have a fire, and move the metal boxes near the door closer to said fire.
And just for the hell of it add those laser turrets to kill the death claws that are so close.
I have no idea of pc modding and would like to get into it. If it's to much for a console gamer to do let me know what you think. I just trying to get my toes wet, and after playing the New Vegas on the 360 I really want to mod this area, plus some how I lost 5 saves to that damned dlc bug so I don't want to play on 360 for a while. I'm hoping PC will be better for me. Oh I have a nice PC that I think can run the game. It's a gateway FX with intel core 2 quad processor and nvidia graphics card. I don't know much about pc gaming I bought this pc cause my friend told me it would make Guildwars look kick ass, he knows the specs, but turns out I hate MMORPG's. Anyway I'm willing to learn, but is this to advanced for a lifetime console gamer.

The first steps are pretty easy, for "remove the shovel and broomes" you can just open the console, click at the item and write "disable" - gone and done
For the rest, there a lot of helpful ppl in this forum and tutorials out there.

Your hardware is recommend, so you just need the geck and another fallout copy.

the objects are easy, but for a beginner it will be hard to make turrets, but you just look at the referances of them in the game, and a Nvidia graphics card doesn't say much, but if it the 9000 series or more you should be good. also don't listen to the person above me don't disable, delete, disabling will still cause it to be possessed

"disabling will still cause it to be possessed"
POSSESSED?

I used it a few times , never had any problems (removed bathroom door in novac, bobblehead desk in megaton, more stuff in megaton home, etc)

Bit off topic, but Guildwars is not an MMORPG...it claims it is, but it's not. If Guildwars is an MMO then so are Diablo and Neverwinter Nights. I mean the definition is vague at best but most fans of the genre will agree that the next most important criterion after it being multiplayer is a persistent world, which GW doesn't have. "Town" zones where you can see other players characters does not qualify by the way, what you've got there is a multiplayer RPG with a fancy lobby.

GeForce 9800 GT thats what system info say's. It should run it right 6 gigs of ram and the Intel® Core ™2 Quad CPU q9300 @ 2.50 GHX 2.50GHz 64- bit operatin system. I don't know what the hell I'm saying this is the only info I can find, the only other game I've played on pc besides guild wars was APB which is R.I.P. rotting in pieces. Any how it played them well, but isn't the the GECK huge or something. I'm sorry, I know I'm asking questions that are more than likely very stupid but I really don't understand pc gaming specs.

Sorry, I didn't like it. It could of been and FPS which I know it isn't but I didn't play past the tutorials to be honest. Sorry if I used the wrong lingo.

If i could figure out how to do all the stuff you mentioned, then you should easily be able to :). deleting and moving stuff is as easy as....deleting and moving stuff lol, you would just need to open the G.E.C.K. look for the room you want to change in a list of interiors, open it, drag the objects where you want them, delete the ones you dont want (with the....delete key :D ) as for adding stuff, there is a list of everything in the geck, you would just need to find the containers, and drag and drop them where you want. It might look confusing at first, but thats just because there are like...4 mini windows all with different stuff lol, but after a second of looking at them its easy to realize where everything is and what it does.

I'm not saying you should have liked it. I'm pointing out that saying you don't like any MMO because you've tried Guild Wars is like saying you don't like coffee because you've tried tea. It's such an arbitrary conclusion to come to. Guild Wars has as much in common with Fallout as it does with other MMOs, why didn't you decide you disliked all RPGs? Or all games involving wizards? Or games with the word War in the title? It would be about as logical.

Lol I like the idea of making harpers shack more useful especially considering how its like one of the only places that doesn't require you to go past 3 load screens, walk a mile and a half to get to, or at the very least better than a storage spot because of it doesn't have a reloading or work bench nearby.

Editing is fairly easy to to, the most difficult part might be getting the GECK camera Controls down, otherwise its.

Start GECK.

Load FalloutNV.ESM (click it in the dialog box and nothing else)

it will load.

Look for a small dialog box that details Locations, its fairly basic and smaller then the items/actors/effects/ect list(that is one entire box with different entries). find the location you are looking for (the INTERIOR of the shack) double click it.

It will load on that Blank window you see which might be the largest box in the Geck.

Press A on your keyboard. this will light the room up and make the room easier to see.

Delete what you don't want Add what you do(click the object and press delete :D), may take a little bit of moving around (which is why I said the controls may be the trickiest part to learn)

anything additional etc etc can be detailed when your actually in the geck.

Save the mod in the geck, give the mod a name.

Start NV and Load mod via Datafiles in NV's Launcher (the Launch Menu not the game itself, make sure it has a checkmark)

click Ok, Start GAME and go to your shack, Voila. hopefully no death claws got inside.

You've got it backwards dude, deleting can cause crashes. Disabling is good :disguise:
