use oblivion creatures in morrowind

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 11:59 pm

i know you can use oblivion armor, clothes, and statics in morrowind by using blender and just importing them, but what about creatures, is it possable to export oblivion creatures into morrowind along with their animations? ( i already know its possable to import the creature mesh into morrowind but what i want is the animations for the creatures! i only use custom made meshes from oblivion mods though since i can't get it from the real game

I'm not sure, but if it's a mesh that came with the game then you better use your mod only for yourself. You would be in trouble with the law if you redistribute those meshes that came with the game.

This is one of those things that's possible, but an epically bad idea. Similar to shooting yourself in the foot, throwing your tv out a window, or driving off a cliff.

Except those are all easy. You'd have to convert the model to NiTriShape and the animations may break when you do that, plus then the materials and textures would need changed.
I think Obvs also uses a different animation method (not sure) from Morrowind.

it uses multiple kfs with a single nif, whereas morrowind uses a single kf with a single nif, so unless you want to do some real serious editing, then yes, it is a real bad idea
it is possible i think by taking the different animations you need from the kfs, merging them and setting up note keys, therefore giving you a single kf, but this would be very hard and tiring and you would probably have to reskin the model as well. Also you would have to create a custom death and knockdown animation, as morrowind doesn't have physics -_-

There's a problem with that, as Taroustheslayer has said. It's not entirely legal to distribute mods using assets from other games. However, if you're savvy enough with programming, you could create an installation process which gets the assets from the player's computer (thus only those who own Oblivion can use it), and converts them to Morrowind files, then a mod to put them in.

if you are going to do this for personal use, then fine go ahead, but it wouldn't be wise to release a mod which takes stuff from oblivion and puts it in morrowind

see this thread for more info http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=965625&st=0

EDIT: Nevermind, went back and reread the original post.

Anyway, if you get the original author's permission, then I don't see any problems with it. Plain and simple. Even applies well to vanilla content. You want a minotaur ported to Morrowind, you need Bethesda's permission. :P

what if the mesh is a player custom one like let say a final fantasy sword and its made for oblivion do i need bethesda's permission to use it or do i need to just ask the creator, if it's just vanilla meshes that i can't import to morrowind and use for a mod i wonder if i could use custom meshes made by other people to use in my mod of course with the creators permission

The question has already been answered. If you want to convert something, you need permission from whoever made it.

If it is a custom asset, that did not come with the game, then getting permission from the original creator would be adequate to the task. Still not an easy operation though.

That's it. No more has to be said. So if it's from oblivion ask Bethesda. :whisper:

Bethesda's policy is very clear on this. They don't want assets from one game being put into another, and that includes Morrowind to Oblivion and vice versa.

What you do on your own computer for personal use is up to you, but it cannot be shared or discussed on these forums.
